I just went to Imperial Hotel Torquay for a 2 night spa break. I rang in the morning to arrange our treatments but they had no idea we were coming. They managed to squeeze our tratments all into the second day, but not at the same time, so we kept having to go off on our own. When we arrived at the hotel they also didn't have our booking and had to squeeze us in. As a result we had to share a double bed in an AWFUL gloomy room right at the top of the hotel. It had been decorated c. 1992 and the fan was covered in a thick layer of dust. The wall paper round the window was damp and the shower was a hot / cold dribble. It really was a 2star room, rather than 4 star. We were so disappointed, but laughed our way through it! The down stairs of the hotel is beautiful and the food in the restaurant in the evening was beautiful. The service was very good, on the whole. However, when my daughter asked to have a cream tea , she was told it was "fully booked," but when I checked, I was told you don't have to book and to just go in and there was plenty of room. I suspect my daughter was brushed off because she's a bit punky? The cream tea was absolutely lovely, with the choice of champagne, which was great. Amazing cakes. The spa was very nice with a friendly relaxed atmosphere. The treatments were beautiful. They were probably the best I've ever had. The pool was small, but clean and not too busy. The sun terrace was lovely, although it was too cold on our visit. The chill out room was very clean and calm, with plenty of dry clean towels and choices of drinks. The staff were helpful and professional.
On the whole, we had a lovely time and the hotel is close to town, so there are other places to eat and things to do, close by. The hotel has a lovely garden and the outdoor pool is heated.
It was just such a shame to have the worst htel room in the world!
