There are few better feelings than having freshly painted toenails. That is until they chip - sometimes just moments after leaving the salon! Thankfully, we have the answer to your pedicure prayers. Make chipped pedicures a thing of the past with a gel nails pedicure!
When it comes to chip-resistant colour, you have two options: Shellac or gel. Both boast the perfect solution for those in pursuit of a pristine pedicure, whether it’s for a special occasion, trip or simply some hassle-free pampering.
What to expect?
Your treatment will start out just like any regular pedicure. Taking place at your local salon or nail bar, you’ll settle into a comfortable chair and your nail technician will begin by removing any existing polish you may have on.
The only difference between gel and Shellac is the products themselves. Shellac is the brand name for an innovative nail product created by Creative Nail Design. Renowned as an industry favourite, it’s a mixture of nail polish and gel, and can be applied on your natural nails (no sculpting or filing required). There are plenty of classic and contemporary colours to choose from, too.
On the other hand (or foot!), a gel pedicure is a coat of coloured gel that looks deceptively similar to nail polish. Brands like OPI and Bio Sculpture Gel all create gel nail polishes, so you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to finding the ideal shade to suit you.
Unlike a regular pedicure, a gel nails pedicure doesn’t look dull or lacklustre after a few days either. In fact, your toenails will look just as intact after a few weeks.
Your nail technician will shape and buff your toenails with a file, pushing back your cuticles for added neatness. They’ll then apply a base coat of polish, followed by a further two coats of either gel or Shellac, and a final top coat to finish. After your nail technician has applied each coat of polish, you’ll be asked to put your toes under a UV light to dry them and you’re done! There’s no chance of smudging and no drying time necessary. It couldn't be easier.
Unlike a regular pedicure, a two week pedicure doesn’t look dull or lacklustre after a few days either. In fact, your toenails will look just as intact after a few weeks. The only reason Shellac and gel pedicures are branded as “two week pedicures” is due to your cuticles growing out. The polish itself will remain shiny and durable.
Good to know
Both gel and Shellac pedicures can be easily removed by wrapping each nail in acetone with special wraps or a cotton ball. For the best finish, we recommend returning to the salon to get them removed professionally.
Both Shellac and gel pedicures can last for over two weeks without chips, cracks or the need for extra costs. And the best part? A gel nails pedicure doesn’t cost much more than your regular pedicure, but the outcome is ten times more effective.
Treat yourself to a gel pedicure! Not only will you save time and money, but your feet will most certainly thank you for it.
