    3. The 5 spas (in London and beyond) that offer a little something extra

The 5 spas (in London and beyond) that offer a little something extra

Published on 31 August 2018 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

There’s no plan greater than hitting the spa – comfort, relaxation and a whole lot of bubbles (hot tub and in our glass). Some venues take it to the next level, offering a little extra to make the whole experience properly 10/10: a real good time. We’ve got a bunch of wondrous spas across the UK with robes ready and waiting, and afternoon tea to munch through. These are a few of our favourites – perks and all.

    • 1 The Mere, Manchester

The spa at The Mere Golf Resort sits just outside of Manchester with a seriously luxurious set-up in historic surrounds. Not to brag about high-quality but… the £5.5 million Health and Club Spa just opened in January. Workout area, pool, and thermal zone – all bundled up in Cheshire’s parklands ready for your next weekend break. There’s a championship golf course too, you know, if you fancy moving.

    • 2 The Macdonald Randolph, Oxford

Oxford pretty much sums up that quintessentially British vibe. If you’re looking to escape the chaos of London life (to a location that’s not too far out), Oxford is a good call. The Macdonald Randolph Hotel establishes that traditional vibe, with lantern-lit walkways and a spa that’s tucked in the downstairs cellar. The spa offers a unique space of tranquility, with a thermal suite, hydrotherapy bath, and a treatment room that was once a wine cellar – our favourite, things combined.

    • 3 The Ardencote Spa, Warwickshire

Breathe it in, that sweet-sweet countryside air. The Ardencote Spa at Warwickshire is an Instagram post waiting to happen. The countryside grounds ft. rose garden and lake (of course), offer newly refurbished spa facilities that opened late last year. Enjoy the hot tub, outdoor pool, and a long-list of treatments (which you can choose from while lounging in the relaxation area). There’s a spa day to suit everyone’s fancy – see it for yourself.

    • 4 Elements Boutique Spa, Somerset

The extra something-something at Elements Boutique Spa? The venue itself – it’s brand spanking new (like, 2018 new). It’s the rural spa experience, with a day of luxury located inside the Somerset countryside. The Made for Life Wellness treatments are the option to go for, helping to switch off from the day job and rebalance the body and mind. A range of soothing movements and rhythmic techniques will leave you feeling boosted (so will the delicious afternoon tea, FYI).

    • 5 Champneys Tring, London

The OG in relaxation – Champneys Tring was Britain’s first health spa, offering relaxation services since 1925. Since it’s opening, the spa has continued to offer a variety of innovative treatments (including the Marine and Wellness Spa which is also the first of its kind in the UK). If you’re a spa lover, it’d be rude not to hit up the one that started it all, right? It’s located around an hour outside of London, so head for the Hertfordshire countryside, kick back, and soak up all it’s relaxing wonder.
