What is the best way to deal with bags/dark circles under the eyes?

I have dark circles under my eyes - other than getting lots of sleep, what can I do to help? I'm trying to refrain from using makeup at the moment to give my skin a chance to breathe.

Rather than just disguise them, try to get to the cause. Dark circles can mean that you need additional liver support for a while. Ideally see a kinesiologist who can give you a full balancing treatment and see where the blockages are and also recommend nutritional support and possibly some foods to eliminate for a while - particularly alcohol and sugar and bad quality fats. If you are in the UK go to http://www.systematic-kinesiology.co.uk for a Practitioner. See my site for more details of kinesiology also.

Thank you, I'm actually seeing a kinesiologist at the weekend - hopefully they will be able to help! I am already completely avoiding alcohol and sugar, but possibly am eating something else I shouldn't be.

If you are getting dark circles under your eyes the leading cause could be lack of sleep, which usually is the cause of my dark circles. Make sure that you are getting lots of water on top of the healthy lifestyle that you have. If all else fails, use some moisturizing eye cream from http://tinyurl.com/pd3msmp under your eyes with a light foundation until the circles fade. Take care of yourself, and that includes lots of rest. At least 9+ hours for your age.

Try the following tips...
- Include a lot of green leafy veggies in your diet. Also include food rich in Vitamin A and E.
- Indulge in some kind of exercise like walking, jogging. Yoga, especially pranayama is known to improve skin health.
- Take two thin slices of cucumber and place them on your eyes. This removes the puffiness and cools the eyes - Dip cotton in rose water and place them on your eyes.
- Reduce salt intake in your food. Excess salt encourages fluid retention and leads to puffy eyes.
- The area under your eyes has very sensitive skin, so never use chemical bleach.
- You can also place used tea bag (cold) on your eyes which helps lessen the darkness - Avoid exposing your skin to harsh rays of the sun. Especially for the eyes, wear sunglasses whenever you step out in the sun
- Apply any best eye cream for dark circles containing vitamin K and argiline. Dark circles may be caused by a deficiency of vitamin K. Regardless of the cause, however, skin creams containing these two ingredients reduce puffiness and discoloration significantly in many people. Long-term daily use seems to have the greatest effect.

I would normally look for the cause which is typically rooted in liver function and digestive system inflammation so advise food sensitivity testing and some gut healing through the use of some therapeutic supplements and foods then once you are feeling stronger and healthier and can therefore cope begin with cleanses and liver detox. However everyone is different so this is a very generic answer and you may need to investigate further with some simple lab tests that we also offer.

We perform consultation to find out the cause of the problem.
--I send my clients to their GP for Blood test (test: Liver, Kidney, Glucose, Thyroid )
--Report is given to my client and she brings to me in salon.
I can analyse the cause if related to Liver.
--If there is problem from Blood test, I design a program of Herbal tablets and
vitamins relevant to results of blood test.
--In salon I perform Eye Lift treatment. 1hour and 50mins.
Involving: cleanse, steam, extraction of black heads if needed, Exfoliation.
Then I use special gels and serums for decongesting the eye area using
Galvanic current and Non Surgical Lift current.
Then Lymphatic Drainage massage.
Special Eye mask for reducing bags, puffiness, dark circles and reducing
lines around eyes.
Finishing with relevant Eye product and face and neck cream.
Results are visible after the first treatment for optimum results a course
is recommended.

Hi, how about fresh cucumber?

I retail a range of Aloe Vera products, and have found this to be effective for me as I too get puffy eyes from time to time when doing long days with clients.
As mentioned in other posts, make sure there isnt any underlying health issues, but Aloe Vera is a great natural anti-inflamatory.

Hi there. At Bows Beauty I stock Environ skin care & the C quence eye gel would be wonderful for you. It contains argireline, matrixyl & dermaxyl, all peptides & proteins to support , & strengthen the thin skin around the eyes. You will definitely see a difference within a few weeks. Use it morning & evening.
Also a good tip is to relax in a darkened room with cooled, used tea bags over the eyelids.
It can be to do with toxins in your system as well.
If you use Jane Iredale mineral make up this range will let your skin breathe. It is a skin care make up range, very light with excellent coverage. Have got a make up event on December 20th from 1~8pm. Come along & have your make up done , learn new techniques, or a new look. its good fun.
Hope some of this helps.

Try using a product that strengthens the skin this would normally contain peptides such as Matrixyl and Argireline. Look for a product that contains Hyuloronic Acid too as this hydrates the skin. After using a product with these ingredients expect to see a visible difference within 4 - 6 weeks. If you require further advice please contact me through my website as I am always happy to help. Age causes skin underneath the eye thins and loses elasticity. It begins to look transparent and the blood vessels underneath the eye become more visible this causes the appearance of dark circles.
The first step towards the treatment of dark circles under the eyes is to find the cause:
Iron or vitamin deficiency
Hyperpigmentation (uneven, dark skin patches)
Weight loss
Smoking
Illness
At the Tracey Bell Clinic we use a variety of methods to counter this difficult area, though, we would never usually recommend filler. Many doctors are treating dark circles with Restylane. Restylane works to plump the hollow area under the eye, creating a fuller, younger look. Although Restylane injections are used for dark circles, there are many risks and the companies that make the filler do not recommend it. In the case of hyperpigmentation and visible blood vessels, we offer a range of treatments including Laser skin rejuvenation, intense pulsed light (IPL) or chemical peels.
For more information, or to book a consultation, contact the clinic on 01517070340- one of our clinicians will be more than happy to discuss any issues with you.

Use light pressing movements just under the eye with your ring finger to drain toxins from the delicate area.
TA-oR
Hi there- we've just done a series on this in our salon's newsletter, lots of effective and cheap tips for general eye health but all help with the age old problem of dark circles and puffiness. Some are below but i've also put the address for the section on our website that has more info at the bottom if you'd like to look:
Potatoes contain an enzyme ‘catecholase’ which is used as a skin lightener in some cosmetics. Cut a round thin slice then cut in half to form two half moons. Place one under each eye and leave for up to 20 minutes.
Green Tea bags soaked in boiling water and then left until tepid work a treat in fighting free radicals (which cause ageing) when placed over eyes for 10-15 minutes.
Press the acupressure point for eyes located on the mound of the palm, just below your index finger.
A good eye massage is also very effective because it drains the lymph and toxins that can often build up and cause 'shadows'. We do an 'ICE Eye treatment' with a special gel and accupressure points based on the Chinese principle of Shin Tai.

Hope that's of some help!
