Really disappointed with our stay at Warboork house. I had booked the 1 Night retreat as a surprise treat Due to unforeseen circumstances we had to move the times of our treatments and were unable to have them together as I had previously booked. The spa itself was very underwhelming - upon arrival we were told that hot tubs were out of use. Overhearing a conversation with staff we understood that they had been turned off overnight. We ended up being sat in the relaxation room, which was also used as a space to stop various cushions and pillows for the outdoor seating - it made the “relaxation room” seem overly cluttered and not relaxing at all. Some of the staff were ill with visible and audible colds, so the massage treatment wasn’t quite as relaxing as had hoped, but could have been worse. Both my partner and I felt lucky to have escaped with out the illness ourselves. After an underwhelming display at the spa we decided to head up to the main house - a former country mansion - to check-in to our room. We were then told to head to an additional building set entirely out of sight of the main building, which can only be described as a lodge - similar to that of a premier inn. No character, seemingly deserted other than some other disgruntled customers. Being monumentally unhappy with the room, we called an asked for if there were any rooms available in the main house. The reception mentioned there were several available, which came as a shock. I was then told I would have to pay an upgrade to stay in one of these rooms… Attempting to still try and enjoy the stay over, I agreed and we were given the room. Without clear directions it took us 15 minutes to find our room, with staff unwilling to even offer their help. We finally managed to drop our bags and located a bar with several other customers explaining there was no bar staff. Minutes later the barmen arrived explaining that they were understaffed and catering for a wedding as well as other customers so there may have been a wait for us to be served. I asked for a Negroni and my parter ordered a glass of wine. The barmen explained he didn’t know how to make a Negroni, but I could tell him and he would make it - to save time, and to be kind to the other waiting customers, I settled for another drink. The highlight of the stay was the food which was served promptly, albeit by untrained staff who weren’t able to remember the dishes, and was great. Breakfast was okay, but sadly the building was being used for an event that day so the area was filled with cleaners dusting and hoovering whilst my partner and I tried to celebrate her birthday. On the whole, the stay was well below what anyone would & should expect from a spa and a country house, especially at the cost.
Really enjoyed our stay. The couples massage was amazing! Theres no pool, it would have been good to know that when we were booking. 3 course meal in the hotel was delicious. Very friendly staff. Beautiful grounds. When we booked it said we'd get a free gift and a smoothy shot, didn't get these but didn't realise until after we left. It was a lovely break nonetheless and we're really glad we chose Warbrook.
overall lovely, would benefit from a pool :)
Staff were all lovely however had to move rooms as TV didn’t work due to poor signal then it didn’t work in second room Got awful symptoms indicative of food poisoning following dinner at hotel restaurant and then had to go home early as so unwell Got a phone call from hotel a couple of days later no apology just to say they were filling in a health and safety form !!!
You could tell that the spa had only just opened as there were a few teething issues when it came to organising lunch and the treatments as there were some delay and some items included in the package forgotten about. The massage staff were very good though. The hotel room was located in their separate venue the grange which was very basic and nothing special plus the bed and pillows was the most uncomfortable I've ever experienced. Dinner was really nice in the restaurant but there was as wedding party going on literally next door and so you couldn't hear what each other were saying so not great ambience.
