I am leaving this review following a devastating haircut at this salon. I visited Toni & Guy for the first time last week, asking for a simple, very standard haircut: layers at the front (in 90s / friends style) and SOME shaping at the back to prevent my hair from looking flat. I ask for this cut every time I go to the hairdressers. It is incredibly vanilla, straightforward, and it has never gone wrong before.
My stylist was Paola, and I’m sharing images of what she did to my hair. I was given what can only be described as a “50% bob” on one side, with the rest of my hair left hacked and hanging behind it. My friend genuinely said it looked like someone had set fire to my hair. I’m currently a student applying for jobs, and the cut was so shockingly bad that I would not have been able to attend an interview looking like that.
Paola finished with a soft, curled blow-dry that disguised how terrible the cut was. That evening, my friends urged me to go home and straighten it to see the true damage, especially because the layers at the back already looked unbelievably short. When I straightened it, I realised the full extent of the disaster. For context, my hair is naturally straight and what you see in the photos is exactly how the cut looks without styling.
The only saving grace was Christoff, the lead stylist. After I discovered how awful the cut was, I called the salon in tears. They offered to fix it, and Christoff genuinely did his best to salvage what he could. Unfortunately, the only solution was to cut my hair to the length of the layers Paola had hacked in. I’ve included an image of my hair now, as well as a photo of how long it used to be. I originally asked Paola for a trim of just a couple of inches and instead, I left with hair that is now short. This could take years to regrow. I hate myself with short hair, it’s not what I asked for, it doesn’t suit me, and I feel so much uglier.
Despite Christoff’s kindness and effort, I am utterly outraged that I have not been compensated for losing half my hair. I paid an extortionate amount only to walk out looking like my hair had been chopped with a chainsaw. I don’t know what’s more concerning – whether Paola knew she had messed up and tried to hide it, or whether she genuinely thought that was an acceptable haircut. There was no care or skill taken.
Whilst the salon did agree to try to 'fix' my hair, you cannot stick it back on. I have been offered nothing in compensation for the original haircut, and the only way it will actually return to what I asked for will be to wait for it to regrow. This could take years.
The only thing I can do now is prevent others from having the same experience. If you want to pay £80 to feel like you’ve been assaulted with a pair of scissors, then I’d recommend Paola. If you want to leave a salon feeling remotely good about yourself, consider going to Christoff. He did a good job in cutting what was left into a reasonable bob.
To be safe, I would suggest choosing somewhere else entirely.
Lisa & Lottie where lovely made me feel welcome and figured out what I wanted & needed for a fab transformation to pink hair. Even though I didn’t know what/how to ask for what I wanted, they figured it out what I needed in the end.
Thank-you for showing me tricks on how to keep my hair looking fab between appointments.
I booked a restyle with Igball and let me say she made my hair look beautiful, she catered to all my needs. I left the shop so fulfilled and happy. If you plan on booking i would definitely recommend booking with her. The staff in the shop was so friendly and helpful.
