I booked via Group On for my mother’s Christmas present. We were taken to a treatment room which was in another part of the building so had to go outside, upstairs and through corridors. As I was with my 68 year old mother you can understand that this took the relaxing edge off. My mother asked for her head not to be flat for the treatment and was given an old cushion to put under it. There was no sanitation as there was no paper roll on the bed and the therapist used already used sponges on our faces. Our clothing was not covered and protected from the products. During the treatment she pushed down hard on both of our heads, which was very uncomfortable and not relaxing! My mother had put she had high blood pressure so she should not have done this. Regardless we both left with bad heads. We then had our nails done. They were barely filed, especially my mothers and then nail varnish poorly applied. I would not class that as a treatment. She said she needed to then tidy her room so my nails did not have time to dry before I was putting my coat on and rushed out, my nails smudging in the process. This was a very disappointing experience and we will not be visiting again and will be telling our friends and family to do the same. My mother was very upset as she was embarrassed for me that I had spent a lot of money on her gift, which was something we were really looking forward to, and it was wasted. Absolutely disgraceful!
My husband & I had a delicious Sunday lunch with spa treatments on Sunday 14th January. The staff in the spa & restaurant were really lovely and attentive. The spa treatments we both had were a facial & head, neck & shoulder massages. These treatments were really soothing & relaxing at the time. I just had one complaint & I was really, very unhappy about & in hindsight I should have mentioned it at the time of my treatment but I did not want to upset or embarrass the masseuse/spa technician. I noticed when I spoke with the young lady who would be doing my treatments that she had a cold. Her voice sounded very ‘gluey’ & she had a blocked nose. Whilst she was doing my facial I was very aware of her strained breathing due to her nostrils being blocked. I could hear her quite loudly trying her hardest to breathe normally but couldn’t because of her blocked airways. Although I really enjoyed my treatments I couldn’t fully relax for the whole 50 minutes of the 2 treatments with fear of catching her cold virus. On the following evening, I did nothing but sneeze & had a constant headache. It became really bad as the night wore on and I just felt worse and worse. I really think if one of the masseuse/spa technicians has a cold, they should either stay off work or at least wear a mouth mask to stop the spread of germs. This was our first visit to the hotel & for a professional hotel & spa I was very disappointed with the outcome for myself. I thought the spa treatments would refresh & relax me but as it turned out they have made me quite ill. Staff really should stay off work if they are working closely with clients and are not 100% fit and healthy.
I opted for a back neck and shoulder massage and asked on the form for it to be firm, I also asked for this during the massage. The girl who gave the massage was absolutely lovely, she was polite, happy and chatty throughout and made me feel very comfortable, but ... the massage didn't reach my shoulders or neck and was very very gentle to the extreme of it basically just being a run over the skin with palms.
We were a group of 5 and all enjoyed our visit. Would certainly book again.
