Good good
We arrived at the macdonald to be told that we weren't actually booked in for our spa day - having phoned two days before to check. When we went down to the spa the lady at the reception confirmed we werent booked in but would move some things around to fit us in. We were told that we could have our treatments at 10 & 12:30 and we could get changed ( changing rooms include two toilets two showers and two changing cubicles - lots of waiting around for space) and then wait in the "relaxation room" (more like a cupboard which you sat in joined out to the reception where all you could hear was other spa goers complaining). By 10:20 still sat in the room waiting we went into reception - were actually now booked in for treatments at 1:30&2:30 and could use the "facilities" until then. We found our own way to the "facilities" having not been shown to find a room that must of been no bigger than a standard living room in length with a jacuzzi so small only two people could sit in it, 2 steam rooms with no steam, 2 saunas and some kind of ice room. While it was all very clean it was all very small and once a few more people showed up very crowded. We could only spend an hour in this room before we got fed up and decided to go to get some food. The afternoon tea - again we discovered we hadn't actually been booked in for this having been told it was booked for 12.30. We were sat down with little explanation of the menu or process but made it in the end. Chocolate and hazelnut tea was lovely, good selection of sweets although all very very sweet - stay away from the cupcake it was awful. Treatments - while my friend said she would give her full body massage a 5/5 I wouldn't say it was the best I've had. Cd playing in the background kept jumping, areas missed such as the front of my shoulders but otherwise it was a decent treatment. We only paid £59 each for our package so I can't really complain. We both had terrible back and shoulder pain the next day. having spoken to other guests, we all seemed to leave feeling slightly conned out of our "spa day". You expect far more from macdonald hotel and spa given it's reputation. The facilities are not fit for a relaxing spa day it all feels too cramped and as though you're on top of each other. I wouldn't return here again and would not recommend. Save your time and money visit elsewhere!
The treatments were great and the staff helpful but either very busy or slightly understaffed. Lockers were not stocked with towels and in one case robes. These were swiftly provided when asked for but it was annoying to redress to come out and ask. One of the steam rooms was barely luke warm; the tea in the relaxation room had run out and used tea cups were left there, not cleared away. It just felt as though they needed more staff to be able to maintain everything as it was used. Not the staff's fault, they were really apologetic and helpful. I have been before and everything was as it should be which just made for a better quality visit.
I loved the spa! Absolutely fantastic spa facilities. Ashley and Chloe our spa ladies were brilliant and gave amazing massages and manicures. The receptionist was really really lovely and I was very happy with it! There was full access to the spa and the products used are wonderful, we did purchase some as they were so lovely and it was worth it. Very smiley, friendly staff with a wonderful relaxing atmosphere.
Staff were lovely and the reception and treatment rooms were really nice. Spa facilities were adequate. Good value for the package as treatments were good.
