This was, by far, both the worst and most painful wax I've ever had - and I've been getting Hollywood waxes for over 3 years. Today was my first time since I moved to Liverpool from Edinburgh and left my trusted beautician behind. Judging from the reviews I thought this place was going to be fairly decent, but don't be fooled - the salon offers a wide range of services and I'm sure the hair and nails are great and that's where majority of the 5 stars reviews are coming from.
I'll try to make this as concise as possible. The first warning sign was the dirty (mouldy?) sink in the room. Second was having prosecco pushed on me (and being told to "down it" to help with the pain). The third was when I was told the whole thing would be over within 5-10 minutes. If you've had an intimate area waxed before, you'll know that being delicate and careful is important. 5 minutes didn't seem very delicate or careful. I must stress that I am very good at dealing with pain - I can handle tattoos, piercings and my regular Hollywood wax every 6 weeks (everything off!) no problem.
The first strip was pure agony, I felt like my skin had been torn, it was burning and aching. I looked down and saw the immediate red blood marks under my skin which would later bruise. In my panic and feeling of terror I suggested we change from a Hollywood (all off) to a bikini wax (just a little), however I was told that we would just go faster and "get it over with". I was instructed to hold me skin tight with both hands while being waxed, which I've never been told to do before (only for the back areas).
Again I was told to drink some more prosecco to try and ease the pain. I was told it was my fault and that if I tensed from the pain I would bruise more. I felt quite upset at this point as I knew there was no going back. I had to suggest several times that it would be better to wax in smaller, more accurate sections than one huge strip ripping a large area at once. I don't know much technical information about waxing so I have no idea how this was SO much more painful than my usual. If this were my first wax I would NEVER get one again.
When I got home I immediately had a cool shower to wash all the bits of wax off me that was not removed properly. There are still LOTS of clusters of hairs that have not been removed (I've removed what I can with tweezers but some I cannot reach). It's now 8 hours after the wax and the redness and bruising has worsened. The left side, which was waxed first, is the worst and still aches.
It's usually such a nice, fresh feeling after a wax but right now it just feels painful and messy. I am embarrassed of the way it looks as it looks like some sort of illness. I'm glad I'm not going on holiday because I could NEVER wear a bikini looking like this. Totally ruined my day. I would say only go if you want a cheap and quick job done, but at £35, this disaster was expensive AND painful.
