Hotel itself nice building, bedroom comfortable and attentive staff etc. However we experienced a few hiccups that made what should have been a 4* surprise treat gift for my friend feel a little poorly organised and awkward - not a totally slick experience. Spa treatment was cancelled due to staff sickness. Refund given at fraction of the going rate. Hotel manager reluctant to be transparent about package costs, when probed and provided a breakdown, this looked extremely “off” in that spa treatments (AKA my refund) were heavily reduced vs normal rate card, yet bedroom rate was heavily inflated (£125 when a Sunday night rate for basic twin room across all websites including their own is £80). The spa area left something to be desired. The pool area was very tired with missing filter panels, grotty mildew etc, treatment room was a quite bright, and relaxation room was cold and a lacking in any the usual ambience you’d expect (understand reduced offerings due to Covid but still felt these are the basics if you’re allegedly a 4* venue). Dinner and breakfast were both great quality, lovely food, menu offering and service for both meals (restaurant). Light lunch was underwhelming (bar), poor choice and staff communication, but did the job for a quick bite to eat hen we were ready to leave ASAP. During dinner the Waitress seemed to lack knowledge of the package when we asked about inclusive bottle of wine and was adamant it wasn’t included until I showed her the email and she took it to management. All in all a nice venue with helpful staff, but I wouldn’t recommend travelling from further afield as a “treat” weekend (50-100 miles away) as it left me quite disappointed. Especially due to the awkward conversations about what was/wasn’t included in the package, refunds etc which frankly were conversations I didn’t want or expect to have in front of my friend who I had treated to this break for her birthday. Hotel building and grounds are lovely, as are the staff we encountered so this place has huge potential with some further staff training on product/packages, and fairer transparency to the customer about what the packages include and how they’re costed. I feel a little scammed so be very careful you know what you’re getting when booking a package, in case the hotel need to revoke and refund any elements of said package.
The aroma room wasnt working. The whole area needed a good clean and the treatment rooms and it was cold in the venue. The whirpool temperature was luke warm as was the pool. we had hoped for a relaxing spa but there were children in the pool playing and I just wanted some peace and quiet. lunch was of but £10 for a sandwich is expensive .I wont use this spa again
The jacuzzi was dirty and under filled. Dirty bar area, floors needed cleaning covered in rubbish. Gutters full of weeds growing out of them outside. Rooms looking tired need refurb, stained carpets in bedrooms, bathrooms looking tired.
Lovely staff, place is a little outdated and there wasn't enough loungers for the number of guests using the spa, the robes were also tatty & no slippers provided. However, great value for money for the treatment/length of experience. With a little improvement on the pool/robe/atmosphere and this would be a great little spa.
Wasn’t happy at all with the spa
