Describe your visit to Health Club at Mercure Bolton Georgian House Hotel
It was very good. The massage was excellent. The rooms we were in needed upgrading though, they were a bit tiered looking.
The staff in the hotel were very good.
Initial impressions were good; our suite was pretty... sweet. Everything was clean and nicely presented and the room was comfortable and welcoming. Additionally, the pool and gym facilities were lovely, despite being smaller than expected, however, there was a sign indicating the pool was adults only (no children under 12) but this was clearly not being enforced. The main downfall, which unfortunately presented itself as a big problem, was the staff. Whilst polite enough when present... they were rarely present. This was most apparent when having a meal in the hotel's restaurant. Prior to our meal we had booked a timeslot (7:30), yet despite this, there was no preparation for our arrival and we were stood waiting to be seated in the empty restaurant for at least 15 minutes before a chance encounter with a stray member of staff led us to a table. During the evening we wanted to return a meal; I'd ordered a rare steak which had arrived medium. However, this became quite challenging as there was just nobody in the vicinity to offer any help, and we were forced to venture to the hotel reception. This meant service was also very slow, and despite a new steak being brought out, this was still unacceptable. For the duration of our stay staff were consistently scarce, meaning we couldn't find anyone to help with anything, for instance, we were left waiting at an unattended bar for 10 minutes until we gave up. Similarly, on another occasion, it took over 10 minutes for someone to speak to us at reception, although generally reception was more attentive, and in fact our only option to speak to staff.
Overall we were pleased with our stay; the hotel itself is a perfect getaway and we were able to relax and unwind, utilising the excellent facilities. However, the lack of staff became a real issue and had an impact upon our stay, but this issue could be easy to resolve, and such a resolution would hugely benefit the hotel and the guests staying there. One other point to improve upon could be the food, which wasn't especially nice or worth it for the price.
