Overall the experience was good value for money. However my main issue is with the staff. My original stylist didn't even introduce herself before she starting going through what I want - I think I caught her name as Sam from one of the other staff members. Then someone who I thought was a receptionist/trainee was watching and then started working on my hair without introducing herself or asking if it was ok if she worked on my hair at the same time. If you need two people to do highlights because of time, maybe ask first because some stylists will have different techniques so the colouring might not be consistent throughout. Another thing is that they were gossiping about other staff at work with each other, and that is quite unprofessional. The same stylist gave a good head massage but was a bit clumsy with washing by getting water running down my face. She then didn't put the toner in even though the deal included it. When I mentioned this she said she didn't think I needed it without even consulting me first, and then when she did put the toner in I don't think she did it properly as she put it in and washed it more or less straight afterwards, when I know that it has to be left for a while to work. My resulting hair colour was a bit more warm and red than I wanted which I said I didn't want, but it wasn't too big a deal for me.
I was quite glad when my stylist had another client and I got Lena instead - even though she didn't even tell me she was handing me off to someone else. Lena was so much better and doubled checked the style I wanted before she made any big cuts. Cut was nice, blow dry was a bit too round but really good overall. She definitely made my experience better.
Will probably return, but would be better if staff improved their people skills.
I always go here and it's great, last time wasn't as good mainly due to the hair- washing experience. The guy who washed my hair was clumpy, I kept getting sprayed with water, I was left with wet hair for 5-10 minutes in the wash basin whilst he found the toner to use. When he put the toner on it wasn't very relaxing. Overall experience wasn't that enjoyable especially as having hair done is meant to be a relaxing indulgence. Happy with the end result though.
I had a half-head of highlights, toner, cut and blowdry and it was fantastic! I was looking for a change of colour and my stylist was very good in helping my choose which shade to go for, and gave great advice on keeping it in good condition in the future. I was paying 3 times this amount at a high street chain salon before, I'm just sorry I didn't find Colour My Life sooner! Everyone was so friendly and cheerful, a wonderful experience all round.
