there was an amount of oil/grease around the waterline of the pool/jacuzzi
We had been given a Christmas gift of Leisure Access and Afternoon Tea. I had presumed that this also included the Spa, but on phoning the day before to check on robe/slipper hire, I realised that this didn't include the spa, but that we would upgrade to this for £8 extra, which we thought we would do. However, on arriving, the Leisure Pool (in the conservatory) seemed quite quiet, and lovely and bright, whereas the Spa, which is in the basement looked very dingy and claustrophobic, so we decided to just pay for the robe and slippers and stay in the Leisure area. My partner wanted to use the gym anyway, which was also in this area, so worked perfectly. It never got too busy, I had the pool to myself at one point, and we both managed to use a sun bed for most of the day. Admittedly it was a beautiful sunny day, which made a difference, but I really didn't fancy the Spa as it felt so closed in (and I have been to basement spas before wihout feeling it so badly - the stairs down to it are really steep), so we were very happy staying above ground. Obviously we weren't able to use the steam room or sauna, but not a big deal for us. I had also booked myself a 30 minute facial, which meant walking through the Spa area, and confirmed my claustrophobia! I felt sorry for the girls who worked there and never saw daylight! The facial was lovely as was the therapist (Melissa I think?). The afternoon tea was pretty good. Not as good as some others I have had, but I don't think you go to the Hallmark for the food really. The choux buns needed some icing/chocolate sauce on top and the brownies were rather dry, but the battenburg was delicious and the scones very fruity and moist, better than some I've had at better hotels, so on balance pretty good. Overall, a very enjoyable day and would go again, as I think it was probably very good value, especially as a Groupon (don't know how much exactly as a gift). But once again, would advise you not to book the spa if you suffer from claustrophobia - unless you check it out first.
We had been to the spa before this visit so knew what to expect. This is a really lovely experience and would recommend it to others. The staff are amazing.
Would definitely recommend hot stone massage
The whole day was on the whole great. The treatment was excellent. The spa pools and rooms were good . The afternoon tea was excellent. The changing room facilities were poor. Little space to put bags , clothes etc and floor very wet. The toilets in both the ladies changing rooms were unacceptable. In the changing room near the pool there was no toilet seat ( it was beside the toilet!) . In the other , the very large toilet roll was outside the dispenser and therefore prone to being dropped on the floor and was therefore damp. Really not good enough!!
