My expectations were very high as I had been to this venue before and I’m sorry to say I was very disappointed with this deal. Although the facilities are lovely, it’s a very small spa and was overcrowded when we went. The mix and match deal is misleading - I wanted a massage and a wrap but was told I couldn’t combine those two. Then I wanted a massage and a facial but was then told I had to have them the other way round. The massage was over very quickly and wasn’t good value for money. We then went to enjoy the wet facilities but it was so busy and crowded. Our prosecco never came so we had to remind the staff as we left and that was rectified. Too small, staff weren’t very friendly or helpful and it’s not good value unless you go at a quiet time.

My husband and I stayed one night at the Athenaueum Hotel to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. I purchased the voucher and managed to get the couples REN massage while we were staying there which was great. However, after checking the opening times of the spa we decided to use the facilities beforehand only to discover that no staff were around to welcome us and show us around. We thought this was strange considering it wasn't that early in the morning. So we helped ourselves to some towels and switched on the jacuzzis ourselves and waited for someone to show up. Also one of two jacuzzis was not working and the steam room was also out of order, which was a shame. What also struck us by surprise was the fact that there were no clocks anywhere so we had no idea what time it was - though it felt like we had waiting about an hour. It was very odd. We also had to switch on the sauna ourselves and had to wait 20minutes for it to heat up. Finally at around 10am, I suspect, a staff member came to ask if I have come for the couples massage. Finally! Luckily the massage was very good. But we'll never forget the experience beforehand!
