How to remove lash extensions at home (using things from the kitchen cupboard)

3 April 2020 by Beth Ryan

Lash extensions hanging on for dear life? Infills aren’t an option right now but – repeat after me – that doesn’t mean you should pull them out. It’s sacrilege for your natural lashes and we’re not meant to be touching our face, remember? Besides, it’s so easy to remove them properly.

By Beth Ludolf

  • 1 Steam your face

Fill a big bowl with hot water and place your face over it. Steam your face for 15 minutes to help loosen the glue (putting a towel over the back of your head will keep the steam in). This bit is also pretty great for the skin – especially stubborn blackheads.

  • 2 Soak the lashes

Soak a cotton pad in oil (olive or coconut oil work best) and hold it against your lashes for a couple of minutes. The oil breaks down the glue – hence why you avoid oil-based cleansers when wearing extensions – and your lash extensions should slide right off.

  • 3 Cleanse your skin

Since the steam has opened up your pores, now is a pretty good time to cleanse. Remove any oil residue from the eye area and then double-cleanse the face and neck – the first is to get rid of any dirt, while the second actually cleans the skin.
