All-over colour is out, this is how cool people are doing colour-pop hair

28 February 2020 by Beth Ryan

Newsflash: All-over colour found dead – and these looks killed it.

Sweet peach, baby blue – we’ve pretty much worked our way through the entire spectrum of the rainbow. This is how Instagram’s coolest are wearing colour-pop hair.

  • 1 50 shades

If you’re a blonde or brunette, your hair is probably a melting pot of different shades. High and low lights add dimension (and make colour look more premium) – well, it’s the same principle for fashion colours. Plus, it looks pretty darn cool.

  • 2 Hidden panel

This one’s good if you want to be all discreet about it. The coloured bit is underneath the top layer of your hair, so it's only seen when the hair covering it is moved out the way. Just pick a section and a colour. Our favourite is right at the front – it makes an ear tuck much cooler.

  • 3 Bleached bangs

Yes, we’re still banging on about this (see what I did there?). The front bits of hair are bleached and toned either to blonde or a pop of colour is added. Don’t worry, the fringe is negotiable – face-framers or all-one-length cuts work too.

  • 4 Coloured roots

Or The Billie Eilish, as I like to call it. It’s like the dip-dye trend in reverse. Instead of bleaching your ends, you lift the roots and leave the rest. When the roots are lightened you can experiment with colours – as if your roots naturally grow out bright red.

  • 5 Neon

Ok, this is still all-over colour but it's too cool not to mention. Neon hair isn’t something you just “try”. You have to want it, need it. Your hair needs to be ultra-light beforehand, any darker and electric shades won’t work. Committed? Stock up on Olaplex and clear your schedule – you’ll need regular colour touch-ups.
