We’re calling it, milky nails are 2020’s first big nail trend

Published on 16 December 2019 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

Finding a new shade of nude nail is amazing, don’t get me wrong, but it’s bittersweet. It basically means the already-impossible task of choosing a shade is now even harder but I assure you, this time it’s worth it.

Milky nails are the new nude that everyone (include Lizzo) is wearing and we can see why. Milky nails are to winter, what opaque white nails are to summer – heavenly. The semi-translucent finish has a soft, dreamy look which is much less harsh than classic opaque shades.

Still not convinced? Take a look for yourself.

    FAQs

What are milky nails and how do they look?

Milky nails feature a semi-translucent finish that gives a soft, dreamy appearance. This look is less harsh than classic opaque shades, making it a popular subtle choice for nails.

How do milky nails compare to classic nude or white nails?

Milky nails are considered the new nude option, offering a delicate finish compared to traditional opaque shades. They create a soft effect that is especially suited for winter, while opaque white nails are often chosen for summer.

Why are milky nails popular in winter?

Milky nails provide a heavenly, gentle look that works well with winter styles. Their soft, subtle finish is less intense than bright or opaque colours, making them a go-to seasonal favourite.

Is it difficult to pick a milky nail shade?

Choosing a milky nail shade can feel challenging, especially with more options available. However, exploring these shades is worth it, as they offer a fresh and sophisticated update to classic nude nails.
