This nail art is low-key the best thing about Valentine’s Day

Published on 13 February 2019 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

For some (ahem) Valentine’s Day is good for one thing only – finding posh chocolate, reduced, the day after. But, there’s heart-shaped joy to be found beyond the card shop… inside the nail salon.

Pink and red is pretty much the best colour combo these days – Glossier, we thank you – so it’s easy to see why these wondrous patterns look so great. Mini hearts, gold accents, I’m a sucker for it all. Try stickers if nail art is a little too advanced for your painting abilities or leave it to the pros at the salon for a longer-lasting *smudge-free* finish.

Oh, and side note – it’s not all nail art. Because, much like chocolate raisins (that ex boyfriend learnt the hard way), patterned nails aren’t for everyone.

    FAQs

What nail colours work well for Valentine’s Day designs?

Pink and red are a popular colour combination for Valentine’s Day nail designs. These shades create a vibrant look and are complemented well with mini hearts or gold accents.

How can you get nail art if you’re not confident painting it yourself?

You can try using stickers for easy at-home nail art if painting is too advanced. For a longer-lasting and smudge-free finish, let a professional at the salon take care of the design for you.

Are there options for classic nail styles if you don’t want patterns?

Yes, you can opt for non-patterned nail looks if patterned nails aren’t for you. Salons offer a variety of styles, including simple colours and classic finishes, to suit different preferences.

Why might you choose a salon for your Valentine’s manicure?

A professional salon can provide a smudge-free and longer-lasting finish compared to doing it yourself. Salons also offer intricate designs and classic options, giving you flexibility for any Valentine’s Day look.
