5 posts from last week that you’ll regret not reading

Published on 4 August 2018 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

When it comes to filling spare time, 90s movies, beer gardens, and cheese-eating have consumed my summer social calendar thus far. Outside of that, catching up on beauty trends and top-reads is a must. To make sure you don’t miss a thing, here’s a round up of our most-read posts from last week. From eyebrow threading, to choosing which pedi is best for you, here’s what we’ve been talking (and trying out) at Treatwell HQ.

    • 1 Why we’re hooked on eyebrow threading

Underarms, legs, even backs – there’s nothing a bit of string can’t take care of. This centuries-old hair removal technique uses nothing but a piece of cotton and good old-fashioned hand power to get rid of hairs. If it's perfect arches you're after (in literally under 7 minutes), then this is the treatment to try.

    • 2 How to part with your split ends (for good)

Our day-to-day habits are pretty much to blame for split ends, and since 50% of us are picking at them daily (breaking the strands and making for 'bad hair days' every day), it's good to know how to get rid. Prevent follicle damage and keep your locks in tip-top condition with this ultimate guide. Spoiler: you'll probably fancy a hair cut after reading.

    • 3 The 90s bob is here to stay (as these pictures prove)

We're all for reliving trends of the past – scrunchies, power brows, The Crystal Maze – and the return of the 90s bob has got us more than a little giddy. This straight-cut, low-maintenance, works-on-all-hair-types chop is popular amongst the celebs and the Treatwell office (you've probably spotted it on your Instagram feed too). We pulled a gallery of snaps together that show the cut at it's laid-back best. Enjoy.

    • 4 Dry vs. Wet pedicure: is a no-water pedi the way to go?

You’re no doubt used to dunking your tootsies in a bubbling bowl of warm, soapy water, but maybe not for long. Depending on your skin woes, a dry pedicure might be better for you. We compare the two (our old favourite 'wet' pedicure, with it's no-water cousin). From nail polish longevity, to that satisfying bit with the skin scrub, this is what you need to know.

    • 5 SNS nails – the chip-proof manicure you’ve been waiting for

The fun one. SNS nails (that's Signature Nails Systems) are the latest in length-enhancing manicures. The process has actually been going strong for over twenty years, but with it becoming an ever more mainstream mani in the UK we gave it a go. It involves a pot of 'dipping powder', a little nail tapping, and seriously dreamy results. Shellac, be warned, SNS has our attention.

    FAQs

What is eyebrow threading and how long does it take?

Eyebrow threading is a hair removal technique using just a piece of cotton and hand power. The treatment is known for achieving perfect arches in under 7 minutes. Threading can also be used on underarms, legs and backs.

Why should you stop picking at split ends?

Picking at split ends daily can worsen hair damage and lead to more frequent bad hair days. Around 50% of people pick at their split ends each day, which breaks the hair strands. Stopping this habit and following proper care helps maintain healthier hair.

What makes the 90s bob hairstyle so popular?

The 90s bob is popular because it is a straight-cut, low-maintenance style that suits all hair types. This haircut is trending among celebrities and social media users for its relaxed look. Many people choose it for its stylish yet easy upkeep.

How does a dry pedicure differ from a wet pedicure?

A dry pedicure is performed without soaking your feet in water, unlike the traditional wet pedicure. The choice depends on your skin concerns and preference for nail polish longevity and exfoliation methods. Both options offer different benefits for nail care.

What are SNS nails and why are they popular?

SNS nails (Signature Nails Systems) use dipping powder for a chip-proof, length-enhancing manicure. This method has existed for over twenty years and is gaining popularity for its dreamy results. SNS is now a sought-after alternative to Shellac manicures in the UK.
