Betting on blue: why coloured eyelash tints are for the win

11 July 2018 by Beth Ryan

There’s more to the coloured lash tint than meets the eye. Your eyelash tips tend to be lighter than the roots, so while a tint can’t physically add any length, colouring them can definitely give the illusion of it.

It’s also versatile, low-maintenance and can be surprisingly subtle – so you don’t need to worry about scaring your postman early in the morning. Unless you’ve gone for the somewhat less subtle – but oh so pretty – rainbow tint.

  • 1 They suit pretty much everyone

Whether you've got dark sooty lashes or they're fair and fine, you're eligible for a lash tint. The natural colour of your lash can make a difference to the shade you pick. Rainbow tints, for example, show up better on lighter lashes (unless you bleach dark lashes first to strip them of their pigment – which isn't really recommended). If you do have dark lashes, go for a blue-black shade – an inkier tone with a subtle hint of colour will bring out the best in your eyes.

  • 2 There are a number of shades to pick from

If your natural eye colour is a cool green or you've got charming baby blues, go for a purple eye tint. It'll enhance your eye colour and intensify the shade.

Complement hazel eyes with a gentle wash of green or turquoise. Kind of like a modern take on the iconic '90s blue eyeshadow trend. But not so bold that your boss freaks out when you turn up to work.

  • 3 It’s easy to hang onto your colour

Two options here. One: simply pick a slightly darker hue than the specific one you want. It'll fade slowly and help the dye last longer. And two: if you become really attached to your new sultry blue eyelashes, pop in for a quick touch-up to maintain them for longer.
