We prove that short hair is a (very) good idea

Published on 25 June 2018 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

So maybe Emily Ratajkowski didn’t quite take the pixie plunge (that pic was a wig, shucks), but, she’s given us some serious salon inspiration, and we’re ready for more. Cara Delevingne has been at it more recently, debuting a blunt-cut bob for the Puma campaign, so is this the cut to be testing out for the summer?

I’d say so. Keeping hair shorter has endless perks – not just using less shampoo… If you’re a roll-out-of-bed-and-go kinda’ person, this cut was made for you. A spritz of dry shampoo on days where sleep matters more than shine, and a few slipped in hair slides for maintaining the nineties trend that’s ever popular. It’s the cut that gives back.

If you go pixie, you’ll likely be heading to the salon every few weeks for a trim, to keep the length in check. A blunt-cut bob allows for longer gaps between hair appointments (the transition from bob to lob welcomes the ‘awkward length’, but that’s now a trend too – winner). Where a buzz cut – for the brave and fabulous – is super easy to keep on top of, obviously.

Short hair: if anyone can tempt you, it’s Coco Baudelle. Enough said.

    FAQs

What are the main benefits of short haircuts for summer?

Short haircuts are ideal for summer because you use less shampoo and can style your hair quickly. If you prefer low-maintenance looks, a short cut lets you simply spritz on dry shampoo and go. This option helps keep you cool and current with trends like the blunt-cut bob.

How often do you need trims with a pixie cut?

You will likely need a trim every few weeks when you have a pixie cut. Regular trims maintain the length and shape of the style. If you want a look that requires less frequent salon visits, a blunt-cut bob can allow for longer gaps between appointments.

What styling tricks work best for a blunt-cut bob?

A blunt-cut bob can be styled easily with a spritz of dry shampoo and a few hair slides for a nod to the nineties trend. This style is convenient for people who like to get ready quickly. Hair accessories and minimal products keep the look fresh and on-trend.

Which short haircut is the easiest to maintain?

A buzz cut is described as super easy to keep on top of. It is a great option for those who want minimal upkeep. While a pixie or bob may require occasional trims, a buzz cut demands very little maintenance.

Can you let a blunt-cut bob grow without awkward phases?

Yes, letting a blunt-cut bob grow out is easier now, as the ‘awkward length’ between a bob and a lob has become a trend. Many people embrace this in-between length instead of rushing to the salon for a trim. It allows more flexibility as your hair grows.
