A big part of post-colour upkeep is down to the products you use at home afterwards. But that’s not the only way to maintain the freshly dyed look. From tackling the subject of a ‘hmm, that’s not quite what I was after’ dye job to washing newly coloured hair, we’ve got the scoop.

1 Buy new shampoo
Now’s the time to overhaul your haircare regime. Many shampoos strip colour from your hair (especially dandruff brands) so pick up a colour protective range to really nurture your colour and make it last.

2 If you’re not happy – say
That sinking feeling when you leave unhappy with your colour…Don’t fret – salons want happy customers, so they prefer you give them the chance to put it right, so be brave, say what you think and arrange to go back in.

3 Wash on cold
Turn down the heat of your shower when washing your hair. Hot hot water will affect how long your hair colour lasts for, especially if it’s a semi-permanent colour.
