Problem-solving professional skincare products

Published on 26 January 2016 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

When it comes to targeting dry, dull or acne-prone skin not all products are created equal.  I’ve been introduced to my best problem solvers during, or after a professional facial and these recommendations have gone on to become staples in my daily skincare regime. Sooo much more than just an after-treatment sales pitch; professional products really do work harder for your skin. Here’s my personal prescription…

  • 1 Environ AVST, £36

If there’s one product I recommend to everybody then this is it.  Loaded with vitamin A,  it brightens, smoothes and improves skin tone. It also comes in five potent levels allowing you to increase your dose of actives (powerful skin-boosting ingredients) gradually.  Hop on at level one and work your way up to level five, just be sure to get a consultation with an Environ therapist before you begin the regime. I highly recommend their Active Vitamin Facial as great introduction to the benefits of this brilliant skincare brand.

Best for: dull or aging skin

  • 2 Decleor Micellear Cleansing Oil, £25

If your therapist suggests you buy this gentle, balancing cleanser then chances are she uses it herself. So many beauty experts (myself included) swear by its nourishing but deeply cleansing formula. You'll find it as helpful for spot-prone complexions as it is for dehydrated, dry skin-types. If you struggle with bi-polar skin that swings wildly between both; this cleanser could help to keep your confused complexion on even keel.  Balanced skin equals happy skin…

Best for: combination skin that feels dry after cleansing

  • 3 Skinceuticals Phloretin CF, £150

Pigmentation or discolouration as it's often called, is tricky to treat.  Tricky, but not impossible. Before you go down the more invasive route you'd do well to put yourself on a daily dose of Phloretin CF, one of my favourite corrective serums. Now, as an oil, rather than a serum, girl;  the fact I wear this is testiment to how brilliant the results are. Packed with protective antixodents, it also makes for a great environmental defence product.

Best for: pigmentation prone or sundamaged skin

  • 4 Caudalie Beauty Elixir, £32.00

I’ve been known to bang on about this before but only because it’s genuinely amazing. Your facialist will use it at the end of your facial but I spritz it several times a day to hydrate, freshen and add radiance to my skin.  As soon as that tired, tight, frazzled feeling kicks in after a day staring at your computer screen, spray at will. With regular use you'll notice your skin feels more hydrated.  Buy a big bottle for your desk and keep a mini bottle in your bag.

Best for: tired & office-lagged skin

  • 5 Sunday Riley Blue Moon Tranquility Cleansing Balm, £46

Get it right, and cleansing can be the solution to many a skin concern. Dry, spotty, dull or puffy skin can be pampered, soothed, balanced and hydrated with the right product. I have a fully stacked shelf dedicated to cleansers and this is currently at the very front. Why? 1) A dreamy balm to milk formula soothes my sensitive skin. 2) It’s free from parabens, sulfates, fragrance and gluten. 3)It’s loaded with multi-tasking ingredients such as mimosa flower wax, vanilla and sweet orange essential oils and cocoa butter. I first discovered it in a facial and i’ve been hooked ever since.

    Best for: sensitive skin
