Oscars 2022: the biggest hair and beauty trends from the red carpet

Published on 28 March 2022 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

The Oscars were back again last night (hoorah!!), and the latest edition of the Annual Academy Awards was definitely one to remember. And, after a slightly pared-back version recently (thanks, COVID), we were more than ready for a bit of glitz and glam. Yep, last night saw our fave stars once again grace the red carpet for the biggest night in Hollywood. From the incredible fashion moments and breathtaking gowns, to that Will Smith moment (if you know, you know) – last night’s events were anything but boring.

Of course, the night is all about recognising the greatest virtuosos of the big screen and celebrating the shining stars of cinema. However… as self-confessed beauty addicts, we can’t help but also focus on the stun-ning hair, makeup, and beauty looks from the night. And, with the red carpet having been the birthplace of many a new trend – we’ll for sure be incorporating these styles into our hair and beauty routines this season.

So, without further ado – here are the 5 biggest trends from the Oscars red carpet that we can’t wait to try.

      1 Romantic pink makeup

Romantic babydoll vibes were everywhere at this year’s Oscars (Zoë Kravitz’s baby pink dress was a dream), and the makeup definitely followed suit. Soft pink-toned eye makeup, blush, and lips were the go-to – creating a no-makeup look on the likes of Kirsten Dunst and Alana Haim. Meanwhile – Mila Kunis, Zoë Kravits, and Becky G all opted for slightly bolder shades of pink with metallic finishes that flattered their gorgeous warm undertones. Plus, Lily James rocked one of our fave trends of the year – dramatic draped pink blush. We’re calling it – pink is the new black this year.

2 The era of the middle-part

TikTok may have been divided in the viral middle-part vs. side-part debate last year, and some of our fave stars were definitely flying the middle-part flag last night (sorry, millennials). Vanessa Hudgens and Stephanie Beatriz both opted for modern, clean, sleek versions – with hair pulled back into elegant high buns – (a fave of supermodels and great for a lifted face effect). Meanwhile, Maddie Ziegler and Emilia Jones rocked a softer and more disheveled version. In both versions, the middle-part emphasizes the cheekbones and frames the face perfectly – which is why we’re loving it this year.

      3 Wet-look hair and lips

Nothing screams sexy quite like wet-look hair and glossy lips. Kourtney Kardashian (this year’s queen of Instagram) blew up the glam meter, with an ultra-sexy wet-hair look that accentuated her asymmetrical hairstyle. Zendaya, Demi Singleton, and Lupita Nyong'o opted for extra glossy lips in shades of pink, nude, and red.

      4 Undone updo

When it comes to beauty, fashion, and especially red carpets – Zendaya always knows how to turn heads. This time, her teased, messy updo was giving sophisticated yet modern (much like her outfit, which we’re kind of obsessed with too). Uma Thurman opted for a similar messy updo look – letting a few strands fall to frame her face and lend a softness to the style.

      5 Classic liner

Whilst last season was all about colourful, ultra-modern eyeliner looks – we’re definitely seeing a return to the classic black liner this year. The line is drawn in a more light and natural way, and we’re here for the elegant, refined vibes it’s giving us. Zoë Kravitz, Billie Eilish, and Nicole Kidman all opted for a fresh, luminous look, emphasized by a lick of classic liner. Simple yet luxurious.

    FAQs

What are the top beauty trends from the latest Oscars red carpet?

The latest Oscars red carpet showcased romantic pink makeup, middle-part hairstyles, wet-look hair and lips, undone updos, and classic black eyeliner. Each trend brought a fresh take on glamour, from soft pinks to sleek buns and luxurious eye looks.

How do you achieve the romantic pink makeup seen at the Oscars?

To get the romantic pink makeup look, use soft pink eye makeup, blush, and lips for a no-makeup finish. Opt for bolder pink hues or metallic finishes for more impact, or try dramatic draped pink blush for a statement look, as seen on several stars.

How can you style your hair with a modern middle-part?

A modern middle-part can be styled by pulling hair back into a sleek high bun for a lifted effect or left down in a softer, more disheveled style. This parting emphasizes the cheekbones and frames the face beautifully, making it a flattering option for many face shapes.

What defines the wet-look hair and lips trend from the Oscars?

Wet-look hair and lips are created with glossy, high-shine styling. Styles like an ultra-sexy wet-hair look work with sleek, asymmetrical haircuts, while extra glossy lips in pink, nude, or red evoke high-impact glam perfect for special occasions.

What is an undone updo and how do you wear it?

An undone updo is a messy, teased hairstyle with a sophisticated yet modern vibe. Leaving a few strands to fall around the face adds softness and frames your features, providing an effortlessly chic appearance that’s red-carpet ready.

How is classic black eyeliner being worn this season?

Classic black liner is being applied in a more natural, light way for a fresh, luminous look. This trend moves away from bold, colorful lines and returns to elegant, refined eye definition—simple yet luxurious enough for any event.
