Your guide to men’s hair removal (back, sack, crack and beyond)

Published on 23 July 2018 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

The back, sack and crack is pretty much synonymous with male waxing. While it’s most guys’ default hair removal treatment, these other trends are catching on fast. They’re smart, simple and quick enough to do on your lunch hour, and they’ll leave you looking chiseled, silky smooth – and probably feeling quite a lot more comfortable in warm weather.

  • 1 The preened brow

There's more to facial grooming than your morning shave, and it starts with the shape of your eyebrows. Preened eyebrows properly can balance out your jaw and define your face shape. For those of you in-the-know when it comes to female beauty regimes, this is a bit like contouring.

Whether you're channelling the immaculate Geordie Shore look or you just want a low-maintenance, quick tidy-up of rogue hairs, go for a quick wax or thread to get the results you want (we wouldn't recommend simply moving the razor upwards to your eyebrows during said morning shave).

  • 2 The lasered chest

If you're looking for a way to make your regular chest wax permanent, that's totally possible. Laser hair removal can last years. Added holiday-season bonus: a hair-free chest can actually reduce body odour. There are practical bonuses too: it's easier to apply suncream to. So more of that sunkissed, golden glow, and less slightly patchy sunburn that shows where you forgot to rub the cream in (way less awkward on your first day back in the office after two weeks abroad).

  • 3 The silky-smooth arms

Silky smooth arms (and pits) can have an aerodynamic effect, whether you're a semi-professional water polo player or you just enjoy doing a few lengths in the local pool (actually you're just pretending to do lengths and you're really splashing around – but no one can tell). And if you've got arm tattoos, getting rid of the hair can show off your artwork to its full potential.

  • 4 The abs

If you're a gym and protein shakes diehard fan, waxing your stomach is a great way to show off that hard work. (OK, we're admitting we don't go to the gym for fun.) And if you've not seen the inside of a gym since your last secondary school PE class, waxing your stomach can still highlight definition. Also, if you don't want to be totally hair-free, but you do want to thin it down a bit, waxing weakens hair follicles, so over time it becomes finer and lighter.

FAQs

What are the benefits of waxing your stomach?

Waxing your stomach helps you show off muscle definition and makes your skin feel smoother. If you prefer not to remove all your hair, waxing gradually weakens hair follicles so hair regrows finer and lighter over time.

How does laser hair removal differ from chest waxing?

Laser hair removal on your chest can provide results that last for years, making it a more permanent option than waxing. A hair-free chest is also easier for applying sunscreen and may help reduce body odour, especially during holidays.

Why should you wax or thread your eyebrows instead of shaving them?

Waxing or threading your eyebrows gives a defined look and balances your face shape. Shaving does not shape the brows precisely and can create uneven results, whereas professional methods help achieve a neat or bold style with minimal maintenance.

What is the advantage of having smooth arms if you have tattoos?

Hair removal on your arms allows every detail of your arm tattoos to show clearly. Smooth arms can also add a slight aerodynamic effect in sports or swimming, making them both practical and aesthetic.

Can waxing make hair less noticeable over time?

Regular waxing can make hair finer and lighter because it weakens the hair follicles. This is especially useful if you want to thin out body hair rather than remove it completely.
