Our favourite LFW beauty moments captured by the experts

Published on 22 February 2017 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

LFW, it’s been fun. You’ve entertained and inspired us with out there hair trends, experimental makeup and crazy catwalk beauty moments. From beauty rebels at Versus, to freshly pressed flowered nails at Preen, to the ‘happy skin’ at Topshop, there’s no shortage of trends to talk about. Here, our Editorial Director Liz Hambleton picks her favourite beauty moments, as captured on Instagram by the editors, hairstylists and makeup artists who sit front row and work backstage.

  • 1 Pure ponytails at Burberry

Hair stylist Sam McKnight (@sammcknight1) kept it simple at Burberry by styling models hair into low slung ponytails. To the untrained eye the hair almost looks wet, but as Sam revealed with his telling hashtag (#modernhairspray) it’s all down the power of the right styling products.

  • 2 Pretty nail art At Preen

She’s the queen of high fashion nails and she also takes a pretty good picture. Marian Newman (@mariannewman) has made us fall in love with nail art again with this girly creation. Using freshly pressed flowers and a pealy, pink nail shade it's pretty perfect if you ask us.

  • 3 Extreme eyelashes at Gareth Pugh

ES magazine Beauty Editor Katie Service  (@katieservicebeauty) captured this backstage snap of the extreme lash look makeup artist Val Garland created at Gareth Pugh. Now, we’re huge fans of lash extensions here at Treatwell but we will be adding this look to our treatment menu? Possibly not…

  • 4 Crayola face play at Luke Anthony Rooney

Fun! Mixing makeup and crayon time together can only be a good thing in our books. Makeup artist Andrew Gallimore (@andrewgallimakeup) snapped his own very creative approach to makeup. We heart.

  • 5 Happy skin & coral lips at Topshop

This is Spring makeup at it’s very best. Glowing skin. Check. Pop of coral on the lips. Check. Makeup artist Lyndsey Alexander (@lyndseyalexander) perfectly captured the upbeat mood backstage at the show. We think her makeup is enough to make anyone smile.

  • 6 Flat french pleats at Babby M

Flat, is the new name for the french plait according to hairstylist Syd Hayes (@sydhayeshair). In this picture taken moments before the girls walked out onto the catwalk, you can see just how striking it looks on all hair colours. Practical and chic.

  • 7 Pink tints At Fydorgolan

Fuschia coloured hair plus a ‘crimped hair stamp’ (it’s the latest thing don’t you know) make for one very striking picture. Snapped by Syd Hayes (@sydhayeshair), it’s more proof that the pink hair trend is not going ANYWHERE…

  • 8 Rock n roll goddesses at Versus

The front row couldn’t get enough of the beauty rebels at Versus. Here, Grazia Editor Natasha Pearlman (@natashagrazia) snaps Bella Hadid showing off the dishevelled beehive and graphic black eyeshadow beauty look that sent the show viral.

  • 9 Fashion braids at Hyein Antwerp

More evidence that we’re going to have to practice our plaiting skills come Spring next year. Swedish hairstylist Ali Pirzadeh (@alipirzadeh) pulled out all the stops with an oh so intricate piece of braid work at Hyein Antwerp. Replicating this look on over 20 models is no mean feat.

  • 10 Nail chains at Ryan Lo Studio

Another mega Marian Newman nail moment. This time it was statement nail chains backstage at Ryan Lo Studio. Already trending on Instagram, this is one trend to watch for the very fashion-forward. Word to the wise, Marian advises nail chains are only compatible with acrylic nails, not natural nails so please don't attempt to DIY this look!

FAQs

How do you recreate the pure ponytail look from Burberry?

You can achieve the pure ponytail look by styling your hair into a low slung ponytail. The almost wet appearance comes from using the right styling products rather than actual moisture. Keeping it sleek and simple is key to this signature style.

What is the secret behind Preen’s pretty nail art?

Preen’s pretty nail art uses freshly pressed flowers combined with a pearly pink nail shade for a feminine finish. This look is delicate, creative and celebrates natural beauty through floral inspiration.

Can you do nail chains at home on natural nails?

You should not attempt nail chains on natural nails at home. Nail chains are only compatible with acrylic nails, and Marian Newman advises against DIY for safety and best results.

How do you get the ‘happy skin’ and coral lips look from Topshop?

To achieve ‘happy skin’ and coral lips, focus on glowing skin and a pop of coral lip colour. This look is designed to be upbeat and fresh, perfect for Spring and uplifting for any occasion.

What makes the fashion braids at Hyein Antwerp unique?

The fashion braids at Hyein Antwerp stand out for their intricacy and ability to work on all hair colours. Swedish hairstylist Ali Pirzadeh expertly created detailed braid work, replicating the style on over 20 models for the show.
