Are HD Brows the answer to natural-looking arches?

Published on 19 April 2018 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

HD Brows are widely considered the next level of grooming when it comes to your eyebrows, featuring a variety of steps that work way harder than your average shape and tidy. But what exactly is involved? And are they worth the hype? In our never ending quest for brow perfection, we sent our friend Hollie to High Definition Beauty Boutique to try them out…

Find HD Brows in your area now.

    • 1 Step 1: Consultation

Every brow is unique, so before your therapist gets started they’ll sit you down to discuss exactly what you want to get out of the appointment. A simple touchup? Help with regrowth? They’ll be able to set you on the right path to Insta-worthy brows that compliment your face shape, while answering any questions you have ahead of time. Remember, that most salons require a patch test 48 hours in advance, so bare this in mind if you’re booking in for your first time.

    • 2 Step 2: Cleanse

To start off your therapist needs a clean canvas to work on, so will remove all makeup and grime from around the eyes and cleanse the skin thoroughly before they begin.

    • 3 Step 3: Tint

Up next, the tint. The dye is custom blended to match your hair and skin colour, and left on for roughly 5 minutes to set. Dyeing your brows may be a little daunting for first timers, but it really helps to enhance your eyes. Your brows will always look slightly darker on day 1, but once you’ve washed your face it will settle into a more natural-looking shade, and lasts up to 2 weeks.

    • 4 Step 4: Wax

After removing the dye, it’s time for the wax. It’s precision placed around your brows to help form that perfect arch, and carefully removed in small segments to make it as pain-free as possible.

    • 5 Step 5: Thread

Next your therapist will give you a thorough threading session – this is perfect for removing those hard to catch, fluffy hairs and will leave the skin around your brows super soft.

    • 6 Step 6: Pluck

To ensure no hair is left behind, the final stage of the hair removal process is to finish off with a quick tweezing session.

    • 7 Step 7: Makeup touch up

Finally, your therapist will apply highlighter around your brows to really make them pop, as well as a small amount of concealer to help with redness. Then using an extremely fine brow pencil, they'll fill out any sparse patches in thin, short strokes to mimic real hairs.

    • 8 Step 8: The reveal

Et voila – you’re done! The whole treatment takes roughly 45 minutes, after which you’ll be left with thick, perfectly formed brows for weeks to come. If you’re concerned about sparse or thinning brows, talk to your therapist about a regrowth programme to get you back on track – this can include strengthening serums that kick start your hair’s natural regrowth process and encourage fuller, thicker brows.

    FAQs

How long does an HD Brows treatment usually take?

An HD Brows treatment typically takes around 45 minutes from start to finish. This covers every step, from the initial consultation through to the final makeup touch up, resulting in thick, perfectly formed brows that can last for weeks.

What steps are included in the HD Brows process?

The HD Brows process includes eight main steps: consultation, cleanse, tint, wax, thread, pluck, makeup touch up, and the final reveal. Each stage focuses on creating brows tailored to your face shape while ensuring a polished and natural look.

How long does the eyebrow tint last after HD Brows?

The custom-blended tint lasts up to 2 weeks on your brows. Your brows might appear darker on the first day, but they will settle into a more natural shade after washing your face.

Do you need a patch test before your first HD Brows appointment?

Most salons require a patch test 48 hours in advance for your first HD Brows treatment. This helps ensure you don’t have any allergic reactions to the products used during the process.

What should you do if you have sparse or thinning brows?

If you have sparse or thinning brows, talk to your therapist about starting a regrowth programme. This may include strengthening serums designed to stimulate your hair’s natural regrowth process for fuller, thicker brows.
