Why the hardy two week pedicure is a good idea pre-holiday

17 June 2018 by Beth Ryan

Sun, sea, and sangria: my summertime agenda. But before that luscious wall of sweet warm air hits as I step off the plane, I need to get my pedicure in check. Why? Because there’s no greater sight than well-preened toes sitting inside sandals (except for that aforementioned sangria). Let’s be honest, painting over chipped toe polish when you should be chilling poolside is fun for no one. So, I’ll be going for the two week pedicure. A longer-lasting, hardy treatment, that keeps tootsies in tip-top condition for all summertime activities.  Here’s why you should consider it too.

By Danielle Petch

  • 1 What is a two week pedicure?

Much like the two week mani (or gel manicure, as we know it), this one's like your regular pedi, but more long-lasting. Gel polish is applied to your toes and cured under a UV lamp, drying instantly and to a glossy finish (no more mandatory flip flops in the rain). The main benefit of picking this over your standard pedi? The two week pedicure is virtually indestructible – it won’t chip and will keep you toes looking Instagram-worthy for the whole length of your holiday. Yep, it’s the Wonder Woman of the nail world.

  • 2 Why is it better than a regular pedicure?

Really, neither is ‘better’, it’s more down to preference. But there are some pretty compelling reasons to opt for a two week pedicure. It makes your toes more low maintenance: because of their shell-like seal, these are sun-and sea-proof, so your colour and shine won’t dull over time like regular polish can. Gel polish is also good for protecting nails against breaks and chips, so if you’re planning to spend the majority of your hols in open-toe sandals, this is for you.

  • 3 So how long will it last?

Don’t worry – it’s not a silly question. While it’s coined the ‘two week pedicure’, that’s the minimum you’ll get from it. Due to the gel, curing process (and the fact that your feet tend to be in less contact with the elements), your two week pedi can last up to four weeks. We've even got tricks to prolong them, FYI. So whether you’re a beach every day kinda' person, or you’re happier on the back of a jet ski – rest assured your toes will stay in perfect nick throughout your holiday (and even once you’re back).

  • 4 How is it removed?

Due to its durability, the two week pedi will grow out with your natural nails, so if you want these babies gone you’ll either need to pop into the salon or whip out the acetone and foil to get them off. For your summer holiday, or during the summer months, a two week pedi can save you time and money (always a fan of that), but it’s might not be something you want to do on the reg as prolonged gel treatments can take its toll on the health of your nails.
