    Undone braids for boho brides

Published on 2 May 2016 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

This summer belongs to the boho bride. With her soft, flowing lace dress, her rustic wildflower bouquet and her bespoke rose gold wedding band, she’s the bride we all want to be. It’s her hair that we’re really obsessed with though; beautifully braided, softly tousled and accessorised to perfection, there’s not so much as a hint of wedding hair about it.

A quick trawl through Pinterest will throw up thousands of bridal braids but if you want to perfectly emulate the spirit of the boho bride you need to follow three simple rules. 1) Keep your braid loose and low – it doesn’t matter if you’re wearing it half up, all up or in one long single braid the key is to avoid that tight, to the scalp look. 2) Build texture into your braid – blow-dry a volumising mousse, a texturising cream or a even a blast of dry shampoo into your hair before you braid it to create guts, body and a rustic look. 3) Go big on the accessories – anything too dainty can look twee when teamed with undone braids. Large vintage fake flowers or sprigs of wildflowers work well, a scattering super-sized art deco broaches can also add a shot of unexpected glamour.

    FAQs

How do you create a boho bride hairstyle with braids?

To achieve a boho bride look, keep your braid loose and low. Avoid a tight, to-the-scalp style by wearing it half up, all up, or as a single braid for a relaxed, romantic finish.

What products can you use to add texture to bridal braids?

You can use a volumising mousse, texturising cream or dry shampoo to build texture in your braid. Blow-drying these products into your hair creates body and gives your style a rustic, undone appearance.

Which hair accessories work best for a boho bridal braid?

Go for large vintage fake flowers, wildflower sprigs, or super-sized art deco brooches. Anything too dainty can look overly sweet with undone braids, while bigger accessories add unexpected glamour.

Why should you avoid wearing dainty accessories with undone braids?

Dainty accessories can appear too twee when combined with undone, rustic braids. Larger statement pieces balance the relaxed look and create the distinctive boho style.

How do you get body and a rustic look in your braid?

Blow-dry a volumising mousse, texturising cream or dry shampoo into your hair before braiding. This creates guts, texture and a more laid-back, boho effect.
