6 nail trends from Fashion Week we’ll be wearing this year

Published on 18 February 2019 - Last updated on 19 December 2025 by Beth Ryan

Though 90% of our manicure trips end with nude-coated fingertips, there’s something about new-season trends that keep our eyes looking toward the catwalk. The past few weeks have seen all sorts of fingertip goodness, from claw-like extensions, to well-groomed bare nails. From New York, straight to London, (and all the OTT clothing in between), here are the 6 nail looks that have caught our attention, that’ll definitely be trying out next time. Probably.

    By Rachel Spedding

    • 1 Two-toned

As seen at: House of Holland

Colour-blocking done right. Robbie Tomkins and his team were the genius crew behind House of Holland's zesty reverse manicure. Striking shades of contrasting teal and black were paired with a complementary makeup palette. Spring, made even fresher.

    • 2 Monogram

      As seen at: Jeremy Scott

A manicure to describe your mood? ‘H-U-N-G-R-Y’. Jeremy Scott showcased monogrammed manicures with a little more meaning; the nails of his models spelling out 'New York'. Miss Pop of Essie made the headline-inspired, graffiti manicure happen.

    • 3 Minimal (with a little something)

      As seen at: TIBI

Shouldn’t be biased… this one is our favourite. Jin Soon Choi was the nail expert behind Tibi’s tips. The base of each nail was coated in holographic silver flecks, while the top half was slicked in a toffee-beige shade, all coated with a matte finish.

    • 4 Extensions (with embellishment)

      As seen at: Adeam

A shimmer of sheer pink and bold navy speckled the nails at the Adeam show, embellished with pearls for some crowning glory. It took 12 hours to craft the nail look for all 500 models. Not quite an express mani then.

    • 5 Scenic

      As seen at: Mary Katrantzou

Katrantzou projected a theme of ‘elements’ across apparel and manis. Deep oranges, burnt reds, and ombre pastels were combined in water colour patterns to represent Earth, Air, Water and Fire. Definitely one for the pros.

    • 6 Nude shimmer

      As seen at: Kate Spade

We knew our simple nails would get their time. Kate Spade saw the true wonder of nude with her catwalk mani of choice. With ‘second-skin glitter’ the vision, manicurist Julie Kandalec (of Essie), applied bronze glitter delicately across the nail. Wiping the brush almost entirely clean, and just grabbing a few flecks to top the fingertips. Nail art, but chilled.

    FAQs

Which nail trends featured contrasting colours this season?

The two-toned manicure featured bold colour-blocking with contrasting shades like teal and black. This look pairs perfectly with a complementary makeup palette for a fresh, modern spring style.

How long did it take to create embellished nail extensions at Adeam?

Creating the embellished nail extensions with pearls at Adeam took 12 hours for all 500 models. These shimmering nails combined sheer pink, bold navy, and decorative pearls for a standout, high-fashion effect.

What nail art look uses letters or words on the nails?

The monogram trend spells out meaningful words or moods directly on your nails. At Jeremy Scott, models’ nails spelled out “New York” with a headline-inspired, graffiti-style design that made a bold, expressive statement.

How do you get a minimal manicure with a twist?

For a unique minimal manicure, coat the nail base with holographic silver flecks and the top half in a toffee-beige shade, then finish with a matte top coat. This look offers subtle sparkle while keeping things elegant and low-key.

What colours are used in the scenic manicure trend?

Scenic manicures use deep oranges, burnt reds, and ombre pastels in watercolour patterns to represent the elements: Earth, Air, Water, and Fire. This intricate look is ideal for those wanting a creative, artistic nail style.

How do you get a nude shimmer manicure with a subtle effect?

To achieve a nude shimmer manicure, use a nearly clean brush to apply bronze glitter sparingly over the nails for a “second-skin glitter” result. This approach adds just a few flecks of shimmer, keeping your nail art soft and understated.
