Aromatic Scrub with Spices, Udvartana Slimming Ritual and Ko Bi Do Precious Youthful Facial.
“I am prepared to go anywhere, provided it be forward.” David Livingstone
The Silk Route is a road not just of trade, but also one along which people, customs and cultures travel, where merchants, traders and missionaries meet to taste the new and the exotic. I join the route on my return to India, and experience for the first time the Udvartana cleansing ritual. A sea salt scrub purifies my skin and rouses my sluggish circulation. My body is wrapped in a closely-guarded, thousand-year-old recipe for a massage that stirs the lymphatic system and firms the flesh. Its effect on my arms, upper legs and middle (and, dare I say it, my derrière) is remarkable…
A world further on, at the journey’s end, I sail from China to Japan, where the women are ageless and captivating, ensconced in yards of fine silks, with porcelain skin and painted faces. I learn the secret of the Ko Bi Do, a massage to restore youth to the face and neck with recipes refined to suit my own complexion. Similar treatment awaits my hands: fruits from the Chinese white mulberry tree seem to soak up the blemishes of age, and sacred bamboo replenishes the fingernails.
Finally, refreshment is served in the form of cherry blossom syrup with an exquisite white chocolate and green tea truffle. My transformation is complete: no longer a weary traveller whose lines tell a story but a reinvigorated adventurer, as pure as the Oriental silk that surrounds her.
