Why Massage?

Modern life is busy and often stressful. We put tremendous strain on our bodies, physically, mentally and emotionally. As amazing and resilient as the human body is, it isn't indestructible. Over time, constant stress and strain can manifest itself in a variety of ways, such as muscle tension, inflammation, fatigue, headaches, disease, and a variety of other ailments. Massage is designed to return the body to homeostasis - a natural internal balance. That's where I come in! Unlike many massages, the treatments I perform are not done to a routine. Rather, each treatment is specifically catered to the individual client to best suit their needs. I employ a range of massage techniques, (such as Deep Tissue, Sports, Neuromuscular Technique, Swedish, Lymphatic Drainage), which are all specifically designed to promote fast recovery and balance within the body.

What to expect

All initial bookings are confirmed via a brief, friendly phone conversation, where you are free to ask me any questions you might have before making your booking.

When you arrive for your first appointment, I will take you into the treatment room and sit with you whilst we discuss how you are, and what your needs are from the session. During the initial consultation we can discuss any thoughts or concerns you might have, as well as taking some details about your medical history, your working, and social life. With the information gained during this conversation, I will be able to tailor a treatment that is specific to you, ensuring that the massage you receive targets any key areas that need attention. The massage does not follow a routine, and all areas that we work on will have been agreed upon beforehand.

Once the consultation is over, I will leave the room whilst you undress to a level you are comfortable with and lie on the massage table underneath a full length drape. When the massage begins, the only parts of the body that will be uncovered are your head and the area that I am currently massaging. I will check in with you during the massage to ensure you are comfortable and that the pressure is okay. I welcome any feedback, so please don't feel that you need to stay quiet if at any point the pressure is too much, or not enough.

Once the massage is finished, I will once again leave the room to get a fresh glass of water for you whilst you get dressed. When I return, we will discuss the treatment and any relevant aftercare. Lastly, I will take payment, and book in any future appointments, if applicable.

My motto: To bring your body back to balance, within an environment of comfort, warmth and relaxation. :)

Nestled within Neal's Yard Remedies at Parkway Shopping Centre in Newbury, Starr Sports Massage specialises in therapeutic sports massage.

Although termed ‘Sports Massage’, the physiological and psychological benefits are by no means restricted to sports people alone. Anyone suffering from tight muscles, poor flexibility or posture, soft tissue dysfunction or stress can benefit from sports massage. It particularly helps the skin, muscles, lymphatic system, central nervous system, circulation, blood pressure, bones and joints, lungs, adipose tissue, abdominal organs, metabolism and the mind.

All treatments are carried out by owner Amy, an ex-professional dancer and actress, she came to the profession after developing an injury. A member of the Sports Massage Association with an up to date CRB, Amy participates in continuous professional development to ensure her skills are up to date. Recognising that each client is unique she will assess you pre and post-treatment in order to develop a bespoke treatment plan.

Treatments can be tailored to suit clients wishing to improve their sporting performance, aid injury recovery, or just wanting to relieve any aches and pains while relaxing.

Centrally located, there's ample parking at the Parkway Centre. Amy also runs additional clinics at The Physiotherapy Clinic in Newbury and Midgham. All have free parking and are easily accessible.
