I had to wait over ten minutes for my appointment. I spoke to the manager and he wasn't that apologetic. The treatment, however, was good.
I have been going to USA Star Nails Hampstead for several years now. The silly name aside, the salon is in a perfect location (literally 12 seconds away from Hampstead tube station), always clean, bright, and - except in winter - a comfortable temperature. The staff typically blend into the background; except for 2 or 3 of them, the rest hardly speak English which means that as a client, you are only addressed when nail polish colour or nail shape etc need to be decided; the rest of time you can relax and get lost in your own thoughts (or your audiobook which is what I like to do when getting my nails done). Initially, I was a bit bothered by the fact that they sometimes speak endlessly with each other (in their language and across the salon) but hardly ever to me. But soon, I realised that this was the perfect setting for true relaxation, and now it actually bothers me when I go somewhere else (very rarely) and the nail technician is happy to share life stories. One lives and learns:)
When it comes to the service itself: I usually have a full mani/pedi and shellac on hands and toes. While there are differences in expertise amongst the staff members, I had only one really bad and hasty pedicure in 2 ½ yrs. With manicures, I experienced a slip up in quality maybe once or twice, but always went back a day or two later to get it looked at and they always offered to redo it then without grumble (or charging me again).
While the Shellac is advertised as lasting 2weeks, I easily go for 4wks without a chip on the hands, and the Shellac polish on the toes last up to 2months at a time. Factoring that into the price, it is not outrageously expensive, even when regular prices are paid, and no vouchers or discounts are used. Still, I wished they had more offers for regulars like myself.
I never ask for anything extra-ordinary, consequently I cannot comment on specific expertise with nail art, or gel nails or anything else. But for manicure&pedicure with regular polish or shellac, this salon is brilliant (and I LOVE the massage chairs they seat you in for the pedi - wished I could have one of them at home!!).
Criticism: sometimes, it would be nice, if they offered coffee or water more than once during a 2hrs stay, or maybe suggest a new colour if they know that someone has had the same shellac shade for 2 years in a row (moi?...never:), but overall, I feel very comfortable recommending this salon to others.
