Just to inform whom this concerns, I am absolutely appalled at how I have been treated at the spa!

Weeks, in fact months in advance I booked a spa day through last minute booking at the macdonald Manchester spa for the winter warmer for two people at £119.99 for my birthday on 27th February.
After looking forward to a nice relaxing day for myself and my sister, we had a horrible past few weeks and booked the Monday off work to have our spa day especially for my birthday.

After being told we could arrive anytime from 9am we decided to set off at 10am from Milnrow where we live to go buy swim suits and find parking in Manchester to then get a full day in the spa with treatments provisionally booked for 1pm for 2 people.

10.30am I receive a phone call off staff who to start got my name wrong and then told me they couldn't do our treatments today, I said 'is there no way at all? we have set off already, booked the day off work and it is my birthday.' After this they said we could get in at 7pm for treatments.... we have to be back to let our partners in from work exactly why we set off at 10am to be home before 5.30pm.
So we said 7pm was no good we can not do that, they then said no sorry but you can re book for another time or in months in advance... I did already book months in advance I don't want to book another day off work to be cancelled on again. We booked for my birthday we didn't want to book again.
She then tells me she will call me back.
15minutes later I receive a phone call saying 'hi ermmm sorry what's your name?' I said Jessica my name is Jessica.
Told me my treatments could be done at 2pm after all so I said brill thankyou see you soon.

I turn up to the spa and be greated by a young girl, she asks our names and who did we book by? I said I'm not sure it was months ago I can get my email up if you want? We have paid already she said ok no problem fill this consultation form out.
So we filled the form our handed it back and she gave us robes and slippers and towels. Told us how to get to the changing rooms.

We get to the changing rooms get changed and the locker locks my sisters values in the locker and won't open the way she told us it would so we had to go get someone and then we could finally go into the spa. Where we thought it had a pool which wasn't there.

1.35pm we went for our treatments so we could get a drink before hand and not be late, sat waiting till 2.15pm and finally went in.

We both got treated completely different I was sat down discussing my part of my consultation but not explaining what going to happen etc. We both booked an hours chocolate oil body massage, my therapist only used the candle on the last 5 minutes on my -arm. The rest of my body was cold oil.
She didn't dim the lights, didn't turn up the music and I didn't get a hot towel on my feet and treated the way my sister was.
The form of massage I received felt like a sport massage I explained I have a sore back but I'd like the massage medium to firm not to hard.
She massaged my body with her finger tips very very very harsh and painful! I asked her to soften up please which didn't soften up. I felt like she was rushing every area and not making my treatment relaxable! My bed was rocking and every area of my body felt bruised! When she finished she said it was over and left the room didn't advise me what to do or ask me how I felt.
I slowly took myself off the bed in so much pain I have never ever felt in so much agony in my whole body after a massage I was expecting to be relaxed!
Every single part of my body is aching and I feel like I have been hit by a bus and not just my back it is my feet, legs, arms, kneck and chest.

I ignored the fact I was in pain as I couldn't find the girl to ask for advice. So we went to get changed and left robes and slippers in our lockers as we wasn't told what to do with them. Handed the key card back in and left for our afternoon tea at the hotel we booked online earlier in the morning.
We arrived to the hotel to find they didn't know who we was or why we was there so we explained and showed our online booking. They happily sat us through and was very helpful.

Until we was told of a waitress that the spa had rang and said can someone please escort us over to the spa to pay our spa day as we haven't paid! I was absolutely mortified! In disgust!
I had to find my email to show we had paid for the spa day and we just needed to pay for our afternoon tea.
The waitress rang the hotel and apologised to us ( this waitress was very very apologetic ) then we was asked to forward an email of proof of payment to the reception and the hotel and spa!
I was absolutely disgusted we was treated this way by the spa! Made to feel embarrassed and angry and upset and in pain on my birthday!

I will never ever use the MacDonald spa company again and i will make sure I post reviews anywhere I can to make sure other clients know all about my horrible experience.

I physically feel sick in pain and was in so much pain I struggled to drive home. 3 days in I was admitted to a doctor due to chroic back pain and not being able to work, been given tramadol and naproxen and bed rest!!

I hope they don't treat all their spa guests this way, I work in a spa my self and I am glad I know how high our standards are compared to such a big hotel like their self

Loved the massage treatment.

But all of the saunas and steam rooms were a below average temperature/practically cold.
