Really friendly, unfussy staff and a lovely building and grounds to relax in. Food wasn’t great (dry cake) and we weren’t sure what our timed slot was to leave but we had a lovely, relaxing time!
Lovely part of the country, the seating area around the pool is looking stained and old. Needs updating. The staff were super friendly and made us feel welcome. Only issue on the afternoon tea was that the cream in the scones was off. Treatment was great, would still recommend.
I have been to the Gainsborough Spa in Cavendish before and have had a really nice time, but this time unfortunately the experience was not so good. It seems that the spa is in need of a bit of TLC and perhaps improved management; for example, there were only two sun loungers available for everybody (the only other two were broken and unusable), and the seats on the remaining two functional sun loungers were really dirty looking so we didn't want to sit on them. The two toilets in the swimming pool area were either out of action, or the door lock didn't work. There was also no snack food available at all (it had all sold out apparently) - we overheard one spa customer being told to go to the local Co-op to get a bag of crisps that she wanted! We also kept getting hassled to pay for the lunch and teas we had throughout the day when before they were happy for us to pay for anything extra at the end of the day. The treatment itself was ok though and the relaxation room was still nice to use. It's a shame because the location of the spa is really lovely, but we probably won't be returning.
Spa facilities were absolutely incredible. When you walk in, your taken a back by the beauty of the building. The barn which houses the swimming pool, steam room etc is stunning with high ceilings and beams. Overall was incredibly clean and looked well maintained. I've been to other spas which look tired and in need of a spruce up but not this spa. Mud chamber expereicne was lovely, I've never done this before and I really enjoyed it. My skin was incredibly soft after so would definately recommend. However, me and my sister had booked pedicures and these were one of two big let downs. The treatments were done on a bed which I've never had done like that before. Always in a chair with sink at feet. It was a bit of an inconvince having to swing round off the bed and stick your feet in a bowl. And then back to lying on the bed. You couldn't properly relax. Legs had to be bent so feet were flat against bed but my feet kept sliding against towel making it difficult for staff. I'm sure I had a new member of staff as she didn't know how to use the equipment to cure the nail varnish and didn't know where to find the bits she needed. My pedicure was rather under whelming. For £38 I was expecting more. My feet werent soaked prior to skin removal and scrub. And my nails weren't filed correctly. Some toe nails were filed at a diagonal angle so look wonky and my big toe was filed really quite short to the point it was sore later on in the day. My cuticles were not pushed back and trimmed so where the gel polish has been applied they already look like the polish has grown out and need redoing. I wasnt allowed the nail polish I choose originally as someone else in same time slot also wanted the colour. So I choose the closet colour I could find, not much of a selection, which I am not happy with. I would never choose this colour were I in any other spa/salon. My sister said her pedicure was lovely and as described including soak and skin/cuticle care although they had trouble curing big toe nail which still wasn't cured properly when we left although we weren't made aware of this and now nail has smudged which looks awful. Staff walked into my treatment room twice looking for equipment and banging cupboard doors which I found very unprofessional. For the price I would have expected more. Other big let down was the food which is from a caterer off site. We ordered 2 ploughman's which were really disappointing. £12.50 is very overpriced for what we received. Although ham and cheese were very tasty and good quality. All of it had been stored in fridge so was extremly hard and cold including bread roll!! We got small salad (just leaves), 1 gherkin, 1 pickled onion, 1 egg, small pot of pickle, small lump of cheddar and brie, 1 slice of ham, 1 very small bread roll. Again, for price it was under whelming. Overall experience was lovely however these 2 really really let the place down. Although they can be fixed!! We would return again but would not have additional treatments or food.
