I received a 'Spa Day' voucher as a birthday present. I booked Ballantyne Spa originally in in Birmingham but after I read the reviews on line (which were not complimentary) so decided that Solihull would be a better idea. I haven't been to a spa day for some time and never on my own before. I found the spa with no problem and was pleased with my first impressions. Booking in was fairly straightforward and I was asked to take a seat and someone would come and tell me about the facilities. Someone came almost immediately. My 'induction consisted mainly of telling me where the gym and relaxation room was (up the stairs) and taking me to the changing rooms. I had decided my timetable and went to the gym first. I asked if anyone was 'on hand' to give me any advice as I hadn't been to a big gym for some time. I was assured there was. Well, the only staff I saw were personal trainers and they were working with clients. I used equipment which was familiar and was quite happy doing my thing. After an hour I made my way to the pool. I am not a strong swimmer we but I do like being in a pool. However I got there and there was a large, very loud aqua aerobics class underway. I made my way to the jacuzzi and watched the class who seemed to be having a great time. The pool was nice, right temperature and clean.
I was due to go for my massage treatment at 3 pm so made sure I was ready in plenty of time. I had been told to take a seat outside the beauty spa when I had arrived o I did. I Checked in at the desk and was informed almost immediately that as I had upgraded my massaged I needed to pay for that first. I had to return to my locker to get my purse. This was all sorted and we went up to the massage room. When I got in I immediately noticed how cold the room was (room5) and commented on this. My masseuse Marie, went to get the controller to work the air conditioner. She clicked something and I settled down for a nice relaxing massage. Well that's what I hoped for anyway. I was still cold and asked Marie again to adjust the air conditioner, she fiddled with the controller again and I again settled down for my massage. I could not relax because I was so chilly and yet again commented on this. I was told 'well we have lots o blankets!)' I gave up trying to get any warmer and tried to concentrate on my massage. The massage itself was very good at the right pressure I requested. But it would have been a lot more enjoyable had I been warm enough. When I got up to leave the room at the end, I felt a distinct difference I temperature outside the room! I commented again how cold I was to Marie and her only response was to inform me that I could have 10% off any products I would like to purchase today! In fact the only time she really spoke to me was to try and sell me products!
I declined! I went downstairs for a coffee purely to warm up!
I had looked forward to my pamper day and I did only have a massage and facial, I can't comment on manicures/pedicures, But I really didn't feel pampered.
I won't tell my children who bought me the voucher that I was disappointed but I rally don't think I will go to a Ballantyne Spa again.

Really friendly staff and a comfortable environment. Slight confusion over the payment as I had gone through Treatwell, but this was resolved.

Would highly recommend.

I always get great quality whenever I get my nails done here. The service is very friendly and its in a relaxing environment. The only downside is that they don't have a huge choice of colours.

Staff were friendly and professional, nice and quiet in the spa as it was a weekday. I had a pedicure which was lovely and done well, pleased with the results.

The staff are a great asset to this spa. It would have been nice to have a sitting area which was more private and note at the front of the building. Apart from that it was just what we were looking for and we would definitely go back.

As this was my first time to the Salon which happens to be a Leisure Centre also, reception wasn't Salon standard. However once in the Salon, Leanne was very welcoming, friendly and she was also my therapist. The treatment flew by, I wish I had 60mins and full body. The Bamboo massage was interesting, not a deep tissue as I would have liked but then my shoulders were very knotted therefore the rest of my back felt it didn't get the deep massage. Overall I would love to have the treatment again, this time full body and full hour. Thank you.

When booking your day make sure you find out about available classes as you need to book a week in advance. I was not told about this and the few classes there were were booked , also there wasn't anything of any real high energy.
The reception staff need more "guidance" as the attitude could have been better (a bit "rude" at times). It also appears that they are supposed to do everything from reception to snack bar.
As a spa "experience" i expected to have towels provided but these were at an extra cost, and also water available other than the1 glass offered after the massage.
i did not feel inclined to pay for a lunch in a very congested area by reception. As another reviewer stated certain areas could do with a re-vamp.
The treatment was ok.
All in all it was not a Spa experience "day" though I did feel relaxed after my massage.

My best friend and I really enjoyed the experience at Solihull. Everyone was friendly, and the therapists were excellent. We were in the gym and the equipment is in good working order, and tried a couple of classes which we booked prior to arrival - they were good fun too. If you want to try a class it's best to call a week before you go, get a schedule and book ahead as you are unlikely to get in on the day. The cafe serves good food, limited menu but fine for lunch. I was surprised however that now you have to pay a small charge for using the robes and slippers which didn't used to apply. Even so it was a good day out for us both.

Our 2 for 1 Pamper Day was a great success. All the staff were friendly and helpful, and everywhere was clean. The gym was well equipped and the pilates class we attended was a highlight - well instructed and very popular. The pool is a fair size although the steam room and jacuzzi are a little small - not a problem if you go during the day rather during peak times. The swedish shoulder, neck, back and scalp massage we had at the end of our visit was absolutely excellent and we left feeling relaxed and happy. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Bannatynes solihull: building and interiors tatty and ill conceived, massage ok but not the "experience" advertised.
Massage was booked as a joint session, yet the staff were unaware of this and had to set up room while we waited. No robes were provided (yet advertised). treatment room very small and noisy. Lots of external noise during the treatment (doors slamming, people running up stairs) really spoilt the atmosphere. We also had to ask for a drink of water during the massage as none was offered.
Also included as part of the package was full use of the facilities, however no-one bothered to show us round or explain what we could do in the club.
Overall the staff seemed disinterested and the facilities tired and cheap.

A great venue and a real bargain for all nine of us who went to Solihull. Good parking, Value food.
The areas were all clean and fresh looking. The gym had more than enough to keep you occupied. The treatment rooms had the perfect ambience and did the trick of making me relax - TOTALLY!!!!!. I would definitely go back.
