Thaïs did a really great job with my haircut
Not trying to be dramatic, but this was hands down the worst haircut and experience I've ever had - this will be lengthy but just want to be thorough. Booked for ladies' wash, cut and blow dry. Medium length, straight, thick/ frizzy hair. Arrived at the salon 5 min ahead of time, and it was so noisy and crammed full that it was difficult to have a conversation with the receptionist, who initially misunderstood what I was there for. I was asked to wait at nondescript place 'at the back of the room' for about 10 min, so I just stood there at the back with my coat and bag, in everyone's way. I was then approached by one of the male hairdressers whose voice was barely audible, which obviously made communication difficult. He didn't seem to want to be doing a women's cut at all. Maybe he was shy or new, but even still it was very off-putting and made me uncomfortable from the get-go. He didn't speak to me throughout the process unless completely necessary - and I'm not a chatty Cathy myself but it was still bizarre, even when I tried to talk to him it wasn't reciprocated. He washed my hair aggressively, getting water in my eyes and all over my face (not fussy otherwise, but it was a Friday night and I had plans to go out after so it wasn't ideal). He then escorted me to a chair and made me wait about 10 min whilst he was just texting in the corner (yes, I could see him the whole time.) After he was done with texting, he asked me what I wanted, which was a simple trim of my straight hair. He then made me stand up, without explanation and started cutting. When I asked why he was doing this (not aggressively, just curiously) he stated that if I was sitting down, he couldn't get the cut to be straight, because otherwise it would be skewed by the chair (?). Now, my hair is barely shoulder length - nowhere near the chair. I've never heard a hairdresser say that before, and I've been getting my hair cut for a good 20 years in various places. But I guess everyone's got their own style - still somehow odd and embarrassing. The cut itself was the worst part. It was super quick and superficial, he took less than 20 min, and even though my hair is medium length and straight, it's very thick, so it usually needs more work than that. The cut was so bad that when I got home I actually had to rebook a new appointment elsewhere and trim it a bit myself as it was really uneven in parts - which is obviously what upset me the most, as it was such a waste of time and money. The blow dry was awful, my hair was flat yet frizzy and there was no shape to it. As soon as I was out of the salon I had to tie my hair in a knot. My face was littered with small hairs from the cut. I think maybe the hairdresser was used to doing predominantly male cuts, which is fine, but then don't make him do women's cuts and blow dries! Nutshell: Unless you want a quick in-and-out and don't really care about customer service or feeling comfortable, or the result of the cut, then this might be OK for you, but otherwise I would not recommend. I can't obviously judge the other hairdressers, they may as well be alright, but I can't recommend the place if this is the standard they hold their staff to.
