I chose to get a haircut and Brazlian blowdry one evening after work at Splash Salon on Goodge Street. The salon was rather chaotic as I walked in with many "walk-ins" and booked appointments seated patiently waiting their turn and several stylists buzzing around servicing their clients in turn. My stylist greeted me with a big smile, directed me to the coat stand and an area to leave my bags and took me off to get my appointment started. Whilst the stylist was preparing my hair for the Brazilian blow-dry, I asked to take a look at the ingredients used within the chemicals used to treat the hair. I discovered that the chemicals contained formaldehyde, a chemical used to preserve dead bodies, banned in certain countries, and over time, massively damaging to hair. At once, I asked to stop the treatment and the stylist called the manager immediately so that I could explain my objections. The manager was extremely courteous, explained her surprise that I would take issue with the chemicals used, as the salon to her knowledge only used good quality products, however said that she would go away immediately to ring Treatwell to find out how she could process a refund. There was no fuss, she was extremely efficient and I got a refund on my car within 3 days as she had said I would. I opted to accept a haircut only and told the stylist I wanted a trim because I wanted to keep the length. I have long medium thickness hair past my shoulder blades. She was done in less than 5 minutes. That threw me. I get my hair done at Andrew Jose (a fantastic salon a mere 5 mins walk away) and a trim usually takes at least 15 minutes once it's been washed. The stylist didn't touch my layers, or my fringe. She literally did the bare minimum and was done. Whilst her manner was very polite, her actual work was poor. I didn't complain. I figured at £23 you do get what you pay for. The next day I went straight to my old salon paid £70 and got my haircut the way it should have been cut in the first place. I also paid £220 for the Keratin Brazilian blowdry treatment which doesn't contain formaldehyde versus the £99 charge at Splash. The hairdresser at my usual salon was shocked at the way my hair had been cut. According to her it wasn't straight, none of the layers or fringe had been trimmed, basically a terrible job had been done. She also thought the use of formaldehyde had been banned in this country. Anyway, needless to say I won't be going back to Splash. Splash is good if you're a man looking for a "short back and sides" off the street like a conveyor belt, seen quickly and efficiently and dispatched within 5mins and service with a smile. This however, is not the place to come if you want a quality cut or treatment.
Quick, efficient, friendly.
Great service, as ever! Been coming here for over two years for manis, pedis, waxing, and never disappoints!
Best quality manicure/pedicure for price in London!
Decent haircut, friendly staff. Good value for what is a cheap haircut & blowdry in central london.
