It was my first time at Cucumba. I had heard really great reviews, and it was one of the few places available with my short notice, so I was excited to try it - but I hate so say I was left underwhelmed.
My therapist gave me a very good Brazilian - she was quick and efficient, and seemed competent and put me at ease throughout the painful bits. I would have liked more attention to details, as my front was left unevenly shaped, but overall I was happy with the experience.
The leg portion of the wax was less well done, in my opinion. To be entirely fair, I had shaved some three weeks before so the growth wasn’t even throughout. I was fully expecting some of the shorter hairs not to be pulled away by the wax, which the therapist also warned me may happen, so I was conscious that wouldn’t allow a perfect wax. However, I’ve noticed a few random patches on the back of my thighs were just left untouched- they aren’t stubbly post-shave, but long hairs that could have been waxed but wasn’t. I’ve had to go over them with a razor which I was hoping to avoid.
My skin got irritated immediately after the wax, and it’s still quite red and bumpy. I know this is common, but I have been getting waxed for over a decade and it rarely happens. I didn’t love the lack of rooms - I was waxed in a curtained off area, and I could hear the conversations of other clients during their treatment (including someone’s yelps during their wax!). It wouldn’t detract from a good wax, but not the most relaxing of environments.
I would say the quality of the waxing is average, and based on my experience a bit overpriced for the experience. Thumbs up for a lovely therapist, but lots of room for improvement I think!
I really liked the place and the people. I also felt they are treating employees very well. Plus they are open till much later than other beauty studios. I highly recommend it.
