I didn’t want to leave a bad review as the issues were primarily the owners fault and not the beauty therapist that did my nails. However, it’s less than a week since I had my gel nails done and they are all lifting off already. In fact, the gel on 2 nails were peeling from the edges the same day I got them done.
Now, when I arrived at the salon I was told Treatwell clients don’t receive their nail treatments by the nail technician who’s work is shown on the Radiance instagram page (which was why I booked this salon rather than others). The beauty therapist I had said she was qualified in nails but only did the Treatwell nail bookings. The lady asked me what colour I wanted and when I asked to see the colour wheels to choose I was told there were none. She opened a draw and there were less than 15 crusty old bottles of gel nail varnish in there. I asked for a pastel blue or pale peach and was told there were no spring/summer colours and the owner needed to buy new ones. I asked if we could possibly use one of the other nail technicians colours and she said she darent ask her so I had to pick from what was in this draw. I wasn’t happy and had to go through them myself and when we opened any that looked like they could be pale, most of them were watery as hell as they were old and/or had been diluted. We eventually found a pale pink colour but she had to paint it on very thick for the colour to show.
The other issue is that there is no option on Treatwell for gel removal. I didn’t expect for a minute that a legitimate salon wouldn’t have acetone to be able to soak gel off! I couldn’t believe it. I was told it was the owners fault and not to book through Treatwell. Not what you want to hear when you’re paying £28 for a treatment - it’s hardly hugely discounted on Treatwell and it felt as if you were using a “groupon” or “wowcher” cheaping out and they can’t even stretch to he most basic essentials such as gel colours that aren’t mouldy or acetone to remove it. The therapist had to remove the gel by filing them off with a nail file which was not only painful but will have damaged my nails. She gave us on my second hand and just partially removed the gel and said she didn’t have time to do it properly and “it would make them stronger” keeping some of the old gel on underneath. I’ve never been told this before and judging by how fat they looked I’m not sure this was the case.
Considering I ended up with a colour I didn’t want, after she added bits to foil over the colour the end result was ok. However I wasn’t happy with how fat they were but I was just relieved to get out of there as I felt like an inconvenience. She told me not to use Treatwell in future and to ring up instead which after this experience, I won’t be doing. The salon owner should be ashamed, how can you offer services on an app such as Treatwell and not even have the basic essentials to carry out those services. If I hadn’t pre-paid I would have just walked out but it was Friday evening and I was desperate to have them done for a night out. I’m scared to see how damaged they are underneath once the gel fully comes off and just wish I hadn’t bothered. I felt very sorry for the lady doing my nails as she was clearly frustrated with the situation herself as the owner is clearly not giving the staff what they need to do their job.

Lovely building on Rodney Street. Just lacked atmosphere and I felt cold. The smell of nail varnish chemicals was very strong in the waiting area. However my Therapist was professional and I was pleased with the massage.
