I am sorry to say this was a very bad experience, and I do not usually leave negative reviews.
I asked for something very simple - just maintenance of my current haircut which is layered and slightly longer in the front. Usually stylists are able to do this easily with a wet cut. My hair is naturally very curly and this cut allows me to wear it both straight and curly.
The stylist said he was going to cut the perimeter, and then straighten it all out before 'cutting into it'. In hindsight I should have taken this as a bad sign, it is definitely easier to cut my hair wet, and he was clearly not confident cutting anything but dry, straight hair. I had selected "experienced stylist" on treatwell when booking however, so I was trusting that that was what he was - I will not make that mistake again.
The staff member who washed my hair was very tentative and inexperienced, I was not too worried about that as that is by far not the most important part of a hair cut, unless you are after the relaxing feeling of having your hair washed and head massaged by someone who knows what they are doing.
After trimming my hair, the stylist sprayed it once over very sparsely (just the top layer) with what looked like water, and then proceeded to straighten it. He was very, very rough - yanking my head and burning my hair all over. I found this very upsetting but do not enjoy being assertive with hairdressers, I was wincing and my hair was smelling, and I am surprised he either did not seem to notice or did not care. Even if the straighteners are not the highest quality, it should be possible for a stylist to straighten your hair without burning it or causing you pain. It smelt for a day afterward, even after I conditioned and rinsed it out gently when I got home (giving it a lot of TLC now to help it recover). Even if the salon is not the highest quality, your hair should not be burnt and worse than it was when you came in.
He then proceeded to thin the ends of my very dry and burnt hair, again very roughly, with thinning scissors. It was too late to remind him that I had asked for layers, not thinning, which for my hair makes a very big difference (it now will not curl properly until it grows out again). There is a reason I ask for my hair to be cut a certain way - stylists should hear that, and not presume they know better what your hair will do. When he finished it was straight, but dry, burnt and with a layer of frizz. He offered to put something in it which I accepted, it was a light spray of serum, my hair really needed more than that at that point.
Despite this upsetting experience I have given this two stars as the cut was even, and the staff polite despite the above.
