Another great haircut and ombré! There was some building work happening so not the best ambience. But can’t fault the haircut and colour!
I have been to Gusto before, several times, and always had a great experience - lovely, helpful stylists who listened to what I wanted. Sadly this was quite the opposite, and it was all because of the stylist, who I'm pretty sure was called Yannis. He's Greek, tall, thin, with shoulder-length brown hair and unless you like to be insulted, criticised, and told that everything you're saying is wrong, I would steer well clear of him. Some examples: I said what a lovely sunny day it was and he told me that he was Greek so unless the temperature was over 31 degrees it wasn't sunny for him. I joked about my not having thick hair making it easier for him, and he lectured me for ten long minutes about how my 'thin hair' (I hadn't actually said I had thin hair, and I didn't see why he had to say that) made it much more difficult for him, as if he made a mistake it would be much harder to cover up than on 'Mediterranean hair'. I said I liked the gold walls of the salon and he said although they were nice they made it harder for him to get colour right. I said the euro was a good exchange rate at the moment and he said that all British people were cheap and complained that Greece was very expensive when it isn't. (!!) On and on like this. With reference to my actual hair treatment, he did the highlights I had booked but also lightened the base colour, which I certainly did not want and did not realise he was doing. For the blow dry, he sneered when I said I wanted a lot of volume and said he would try, in a way that suggested I was asking for something impossible, though other stylists at Gusto had done exactly what I wanted before. He did an okay job of it but failed at doing the front how I had asked him. I said could he backcomb a little for the volume, and he said loudly: "On THIS hair?" with another sneer. He did, and it helped, but the front was still flopping so I had to ask them for two grips to pin it up and back so I could see. I have never, ever, had to adapt a blowdry by pinning it in 30 years of getting my hair done, and he acted as if it was me being fussy rather than his failure to do it right. And then, to add insult to injury, he told me at the end that I owed £15 extra for toner! I was totally taken aback and said that I'd already booked a full package and it should have been included. No, he was very unpleasant and said: "You said you'd been here before. You should know toner is extra." Me: "I would never think that it wouldn't be included in a package." Him: "But you've been here before! You should know!" Me: "I've only been here for blow-dries." Him: "Well, everyone knows they pay extra for toner! Everyone knows." Me: "I suppose I'm stupid then." Him: "Well, it's extra, you have to pay it." So, in order to get out of there without even more of this unpleasant scene, I did pay £15. I rang up Treatwell the next day and they were great and got it refunded to me. But I would not go near Gusto again while this guy is still working there and I strongly recommend that you don't either. It's such a shame as it's a nice little salon, the receptionist was really nice and friendly and gave me wine, water and popcorn, the other stylist seemed lovely too and, as I said, my previous experiences were all great. But this guy was so awful. He even lectured the receptionist after fixing the cable connection for the computer, telling her loudly that she "needed a man to make it work". Who argues with customers during what's supposed to be easy conversation, and criticises their hair and their choices for it? Who bullies them out of an extra charge at the end? It was truly unpleasant and I will be very careful to make sure he's no longer at Gusto if I ever want to go back.
Loved my haircut by Nicholas. Salon was undergoing refurbishment at the time so it wasn't the most relaxing environment! But happy with the result and that's what matters.
difficult to find...just basic wash and blowdry. my treatment was with luxury hair mask but she put just conditioner and left for 5 mins. i would not go again.
Extra charge for a cut that hasn’t been mentioned at the beginning
