I arrived to an empty salon. It was silent inside, no music, no chatter, just the sound of the cash machine being used from the outside by a man who seemed to be drawing a lot of money outside. I was not offered any water, tea or coffee. Fine. That's just a bit of perks with most other hairdressers. My appointment was for balayage and I wanted a warmer tone and the hairdresser kindly persuaded me to have go a deep purple which I was very excited about. The colouring process started on my naked greasy hat hair. She was coarse and rough with my hair to a point where I was pulled left right and centre giving out a few yelps and ouches. No, she still didn't try to be more gentle. She was vigorously back-combing my hair, and pulling it so much so that I felt like I was half off my seat. No she still didn't try to be more gentle. "Just take the pain" I said to myself, "I'm sure it'll turn out amazing". The salon was still silent. Normally I love having my hair washed at the salon. Not this time. I was in so much pain. I don't know if it's because she had extra rubbery rubber gloves on? It felt like that she was trying to scrub my head with a steel wool covered in elastic bands. It was awful. Despite the pain, I did not feel that my scalp and hair was actually clean, go figure... then the hair brushing started, the previous matte back-combing proved a little tricky to comb out, but apparently that's my fault - I have terrible hair (I have had my hair done and had balayage before without all this pain). The brush and combs were dropped on the floor more than a few times. There was very little care into brushing my hair, the method she chose was to yank the knots out. Hair cut was not included, so on top of the £80 I paid another £25, which is fine, I was already there, I had a function to go to the following day. The haircut was average or maybe even below par, she did not seem particularly experience nor was there much care and attention (I have had MANY haircuts before). After a quick blow dry I can see the final colour of my hair, it is not purple, it's red. It happened to be the colour that I was initially wanting, but definately not the colour I went for in the end. I asked for curls and a curling iron was used. The blow dry/styling was fine, mediocre.
All in all, she seemed like a nice lady, but I did not feel that much care was put into my experience, and I certainly did not feel pampered or relaxed during the experience. I was glad to leave the salon with most of my hair intact.
