We booked a two night stay which included a 3 course meal on the first night and a historical tour. Our stay started off well - our room was in the old stables, which was suitable enough and we enjoyed our meal on the first night. We had booked a historical tour of the mansion for the following day at 10.30am but the gentleman failed to meet us. This was quite disappointing as we had made the effort to make it on time and it was a shame that it had not been organised very well. The leisure club facilities are good - the pool could do with some refurbing, but the Jacuzzi was very relaxing and the newly equipped gym was great.
It was excellent value for money for the following reasons: the room was lovely, food was nice and the gym was excellent. The biggest let down was the pool, it was in such a good location and a great size but was really run down - there was green algae growing all over the edges of the pool and the roof, there was even a crack in the roof which meant the rain was dripping into the pool. The staff were very disorganised in the restaurant. Those issues were minor but I think they could make the difference between a good experience and an excellent one.
Was disappointed this was marketed as a spa when actually it was just a leisure centre - and the swimming pool was closed for maintenance.
But the hall and grounds were lovely.
