Spent one evening there. Arrived at lunchtime and used the spa, had afternoon tea, treatment in the spa then an evening meal. Everything was enjoyable and good value for money
Ok, so we booked the mid-week break. Highly recommend this offer as it's very good value for money! Just a few issues to highlight but simply for improvement purposes, I wouldn't want people to be put off by my opinions but I feel it fair to give a critical approach to the services which could be somewhat improved here.
We upgraded our cream tea on arrival to the full afternoon tea for 2. We were disappointed with the 50 minute service wait (even for the pot of tea) the quality of the food was superb, everything served was delicious however there simply was not enough! We would have appreciated an additional sandwich and another pot of tea with this. Not exactly value for money on this but nevertheless it was tasty.
Our room itself was nice, the cleaner hadn't done an amazing job as there was rubbish on the bathroom floor and a squashed dead spider in the bath tub. The mattress was too hard for our preferences but we appreciate this is a difficult one for hotels given personal preference however the pillows could have been softer which may have aided our sleep on the very firm mattress. The temperature of the room was uncomfortable, and we found ourselves waking regularly throughout the night as we were too cold.
Finally, some form of renovation of rooms must have been underway during our stay, the smell of paint chemicals was overwhelming at times and being heavily pregnant it was difficult to navigate my way through the corridor which at one point was obstructed by a huge bed and dressing table. Like I say though, all small issues that either can't be helped or are easily rectified for future guests.
We made our way down to the spa after afternoon tea, we booked very last minute and as a result our inclusive treatments were not able to be booked until the following day. The spa facilities were great! Relaxing! I hate lavender though, and that's what the aromatherapy room was secreting on both days unfortunately. Lovely temperature of the jacuzzi and the pool. Although it was difficult to earn a position in the pool amongst the regulars there.
My husband really enjoyed his facial taster the following day. I had planned to upgrade to a gel pedicure however was astonished at the price and refuse to pay such an extortionate price for some gel toenails! That being said I regretted it the next day, as all but one of the OPI polish used had chipped and needed removing and repeating at my local salon.
The evening meal was tasty, adequate portion sizes (the soup portion was HUGE) struggled to eat even half of my main as I had over indulged on the carrot soup! I had the chicken (which wasn't up to much but tasty anyway) and my husband ordered a medium/rare steak which arrived well done and so was slightly disappointed. Again, we still enjoyed the food as these are only small issues.
The restaurant distinctly lacks any ambience, whilst the lighting is suitable for a relaxing meal the tables are situated within very close proximity to one another and so creates difficulty in having a private conversation! There's also no background music which only adds to the awkward silences from neighbouring tables.
We upgraded our breakfast to room service for the following morning! Highly recommend doing this! We went to town with our breakfast and for the small charge of £3.50pp for room service itself we were amazed with both the quality and quantity of the food which arrived!
We would most definitely return to this venue and would choose the same deal in a heartbeat! It's a welcome small break away that doesn't break the bank!
