This was my first visit - my regular beautician had an emergency, and I booked a last-minute shellac manicure with Maria who I heard lots of positive reviews about. I also booked an eyebrow tint.
I didn’t get a proper greeting and noted immediately how busy the place was. When I eventually got called by the technician, the was no introduction either. I booked a full manicure, but asked for cuticle scissors not to be used during the process. The service was very basic, but the technician did ask about the shape I wanted. It was quite noisy at the salon, with Cher and other ladies speaking loudly, laughing and making jokes about various things, incl personal matters, ordering pizzas, etc. I didn’t mind this personally as such.
As soon as nail technician started applying the shellac polish, it became immediately obvious that she was extremely inexperienced and had great difficulty getting it right. There was no support or oversight offered, and it was up to me to point out things like unequal lines, numerous stray marks on cuticles (that she kept on removing using her own nails or sharp objects), shrinking and patchy color payoff, etc. I found this process quite frustrating and somewhat unprofessional.
After 1 hr 15min we were still going at it, with technician just starting to apply a second layer of shellac to my nails. The result was poor which I wasn’t happy about, and the technician called Cher over. Cher came over to the manicure station, asking what I wasn’t happy with. I showed her my hands as the issue was self explanatory, and she admitted that “it wasn’t neat”. At that stage, Cher asked Maria to do my nails - even though I booked with Maria in the first place!
I am very disappointed that despite choosing to have my manicure with Maria, I was allocated to a different person, who clearly didn’t have enough experience or skills to complete the task. That technician went on to complete other tasks after Maria took over doing my nails, like assisting at the salon, doing blow drying, etc - which is why I have concluded that she may be a more junior member of staff. Sadly, there was no explanation or apology offered to me at any point. I would like to reiterate that this is nothing personal in relation to the technician herself, but I feel strongly that it is not fair for paying customers to be allocated to someone who still requires lots of practice, without being notified or asked if we would be happy to be practiced on, which would naturally require more time and room for mistakes, as well as the need for someone to oversee their practice.
Maria was great; even though she had to start over, removing shellac the previous technician applied, doing the soak /full manicure again and UV lamp not working properly, she was attentive to detail, very thorough and professional. She did an amazing job, and my nails look great.
Eyebrow tint by Cher was also really good, and I asked if Cher could accommodate a quick haircut without an appointment - I was really happy with the end result and will consider going back for these services.
Great cut, and Cher was lovely as always. It was busy, but they managed to do things quickly without feeling rushed.
I arrived 20 mins late due to traffic but have called in and they said: thats not a problem just come in. When I arrived I had to wait for one hour, which was annoying and this could be communicated over the phone so i could rearrange my appointment. The Lady M. however who did my facial was super friendly and done her job good.
