We booked via wahanda for an overnight spa break which included a 60 minute treatment. We regularly do spa breaks (at least 5 times a year) at different locations and were excited for this one as I've heard good things.

There was no contact from the spa regarding treatments and it took a while to get through to speak to somebody. The contact details on your wahanda booking are incorrect and it to There were few treatment times available and it took a while to work out the right details. We were initially offered 30 minutes on the saturday at 12.00 and 30 minutes late on the sunday - this is not a spa day. Eventually we found 2 30 minute slots (12 and 17.30) - not ideal but on the same day at least! Worth noting that I had to keep ringing to chase these rather than being chased by their team. Unfortunately we didn't realise that the treatments start 5 minutes late and end 5 minutes early - so rather than loosing 10 minutes we lost 20 minutes of treatment time!

The spa in itself isn't a spa and is far from a relaxing retreat! Not only do all hotel guest use the facilities - so do a lot of locals. There were 7 kids jumping and splashing when we arived and when we left. There is a pool, sauna and steam room -less than I get at my local gym. Its also really bright. Definitely the worst spa I've been to for ambience. Also there are no post-treatment relaxation rooms so you go from a massage back to the noisy and chaotic pool. We went to our room in between treatments for some peace and quiet!!

The best thing about the spa was that they have up-to-date magazines ... this was handy. The lunch food was beautiful - evening meal sold itself as upmarket but I wouldn't agree, quality wasn't great and service was slow.

We upgraded our rooo and it looked nice. However our duvet was 2 single duvets zipped together and our bed was 2 single put together - so they kept coming apart. There is no plug socket near a mirror so ibhad to dry my hair looking at a wall. The lights are very dark in the room so I had to guess at putting my makeup on. The TV is really low so you cant see it if lay in bed - needed to sit up to watch. Also my room was next to a firedoor which banged all day and night.

My experience at this location has taught me a valuable lesson. Its more worthwhile to spend the day at a beautiful purpose-built spa that has full focus on relaxation and stay at an equally purposeful hotel separately.

If I was staying at the hotel for another purpose I would access the spa for convenience - otherwise I would not return unfortunately.

Excellent hotel, food, staff and grounds. Facilities were good and the facial was great. Hotel had no record of reservation on arrival but issue was resolved quickly and an upgrade provided as an apology. Staff in particular were very professional and friendly.

Therapist was lovely and the treatments were great but let down by the changing rooms. They really need updating and were quite dirty (at 10am) They were cleaned while we were there but tiles need replacing/re grouting etc so it's never going to look clean until that's done.

The venue was beautiful and my friend and I had a luxurious day. Sad there was no jacuzzi but we knew that before we went! Will definitely be repeating the experience!

Lovely spa, lovely and very accommodating staff and therapists. Peaceful and relaxing atmosphere with beautiful surroundings. I had the Luxury Package day, as a birthday treat. The lunch was included but what I received was a £10.00 voucher so if you would like something more please be prepared to pay something towards the lunch. Food and service was brilliant though. Also there were free hot drinks and chilled water was available at the spa too. Left feeling very pampered and relaxed indeed.

I stayed at the hotel the night before my spa day and only really bought it as a cheap way to have some treatments. I actually booked the wrong day but this was not a problem at all and I was able to change with no difficulty whatsoever. I found the pool, stream room and sauna facilities to be excellent (would have liked a jacuzzi but I knew from previous reviews that there wasn't one). All the staff I dealt with were brilliant, could not do enough to help and were very friendly and professional. My treatments were booked at a convenient time and were expertly done by an extremely pleasant young lady, who kept me informed throughout.I actually lost the lunch voucher included with the spa day but it was replaced without question by the lovely receptionist. The £10 voucher covered a thick bloomer sandwich, filled with loads of chicken and bacon, side salad and a bowl of chips. It was substantial enough for my husband and I to share. Overall we were both so impressed with the hotel and spa that we will be returning very soon.

How these facilities could possibly be described as a spa is astonishing. A public swimming pool full of screaming children bashing each other with foam floats, plus too bright lights, a few sun loungers and a steam room is NOT a spa. How disgraceful to market this joke of a facility to the general public. We were given vile old brown robes and a cheap towel each and had to have separate treatment times because those were the only slots left. The young staff try so hard but are working in impossibly poor conditions. The pool was cold - this was commented on by everyone there, including a pregnant woman. My daughter wouldn't even go in the water. Lunch was taken at tables piled high with uncleared plates and we were left waiting for even a jug of water for ages, I made three trips to the bar before we got served outside. They 'ran out' of mayonnaise for our salads - how does that happen for goodness sake? Considering the beautiful setting this was incredibly disappointing and ruined what was a birthday treat for both of my daughters whom I rarely see. We will not be going back nor recommending this to anyone we know.

A beautiful building and gardens steeped in history. However, staff at reception are not particularly helpful or friendly and as a result, we were unable to relax fully.

Had a lovely day with my mum and my sister. The staff were friendly and helpful, the facilities were good, lunch delicious and the unlimited free hot drinks were a bonus.

The spa itself is pretty disappointing; a pool where the temperature is pretty cold, no jacuzzi & it's small. It's gets packed pretty quickly. The changing rooms are tiny, old fashioned & pretty grim. Have been to spas with better & more modern facilities.

The dining area is also small & can't cater for the amount of guests at the hotel. We had a dinner reservation & had to wait for our table as 'guests were still enjoying the table!' When we finally got the table we were ignored for ages & had to keep asking for service & repeating the order as things were continuously missed. By the time we'd finally had all of our courses, the whole thing had taken over 2 hours. Really not impressed.

The staff are polite & friendly but the hotel & Spa can't cope with the amount of guests it has & the Spa isn't so great. There are better hotel spa deals to be had.
