My name is Damanjit Kaur, but most people know me as Jita. I am a former Leeds 23 Neighbourhood Host, a community builder, beauty therapist, carer for older parents, and a single mother. Life has given me many roles, and I continue to balance them with resilience, compassion, and determination. As a community builder, I am passionate about bringing people together, creating safe and inclusive spaces, and supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds. My experience as a Leeds 23 Neighbourhood Host allowed me to connect with families, organise community activities, and promote wellbeing and cultural unity. Alongside my community work, I am a beauty therapist, where I help people feel confident, valued, and empowered through self-care. I am also a devoted carer for my older parents, which has strengthened my patience, empathy, and sense of responsibility. Being a single mother while juggling multiple responsibilities has not always been easy, but it has taught me strength and perseverance. Through challenging times, I have learned how to stand strong, stay positive, and continue supporting others. My journey reflects my belief in resilience, community, and uplifting people around me.
