I went there to make my eyelashes. The staff was quite nice except the receptionist. I’ve spent 2hours sitting on very uncomfortable chair and in pain, as the girl who was making my eyelashes wasn’t to delicate. I could even feel the glue in my eyes. After all lashes looked quite good, but were very uncomfy and were hurting my eyes. At the end the lashes came off after one week. Can’t recommend and will never come back there.
After my last appointment, I won't be returning to Amia Beauty. This is very disappointing as I've previously had great treatments here from Mona and Savana, even though I always felt the salon was quite 'no-frills'. I had doubts after my last visit (walk-in, not Treatwell booked) and I found this visit so off putting that I would rather go elsewhere, even though it will cost me more money.
On this visit I had a manicure and a pedicure. I was really disappointed with the quality of the treatments, the general service and a lack of basic health & safety. There weren’t enough staff. The person at the reception desk was doing someone’s hair when I arrived (I thought it was a client but it was another member of staff) and didn’t really check me in. The staff were arguing about their shifts for the next week, squabbling over the music that was playing and complaining about other clients.
My appointment was started 25 minutes late because the lady that was supposed to do my mani/pedi was apparently also the only person who could thread eyebrows, and before starting my treatment, she saw two walk-in clients who arrived after me. Why have an appointment system if you don't stick to it and give walk-in clients priority?
The manicure station wasn't equipped with the basics for the treatment and the therapist struggled to do a treatment. She had to keep going off to get things and she had trouble with doing basic steps (like removing all of my old nail polish, I wasn’t wearing gels or shellac, just regular polish – I had to ask her to remove it all before she started painting the new polish).
The water in the nail bath was very cold, so my cuticles didn’t soften properly and this made the cuticle removal really painful. There wasn’t a bowl of water to wash off the scrub, instead I was asked to go and wash my hands in the hairdressing backwash. OK, I don't really mind doing that, but if you are going to direct customers to do this, at least have the basics like soap for them to use and a towel for them to dry their hands on. (Also warm water would be nice!)
However, the worst thing was that aspects of the treatment are blatantly dangerous. For example, during my pedicure (which was done after my manicure) the therapist wanted me to sit with my feet in the foot bath and a dryer on my lap (a dryer that was plugged into the mains power supply). This is so dangerous that I can't believe anyone working in a salon would think that it was a good idea! The therapist went off to get different files etc during my pedicure and I didn’t see her sterilise them when she came back, she said they were clean but given that she put them away in the drawer at the end of my treatment I really have my doubts.
The polish on my mani/pedi was really poorly done this time, there are huge gaps where she didn't paint all of my nails! And cuticles haven't been properly treated. Two days later and I'm going to a different salon to get a full mani/pedi done again. But I’m still feeling thankful that I wasn’t electrocuted and don’t have an infection.
I appreciate that this might have been a bad day for the salon, but I was made to feel so unwelcome and like such a nuisance during this visit that I really don’t want to return. It wasn’t like they weren’t expecting to do a mani/pedi at this time because I had pre-booked and pre-paid! I’m also really concerned about the lack of handwashing equipment, the dangerous practices with the nail dryer, and the sterilising of equipment.
In general, the whole salon could really use some TLC and needs to have some basics covered. For example, make sure the taps in the bathroom sinks are all working (hot water seems to be switched off - why?) and supply soap and towels for customers at all sinks.
There seems to be a basic lack of supplies at the treatment stations. As well as this mani/pedi disaster, I noticed that during my last bikini wax the therapist was using the lid of the pedal bin as a makeshift table! She said "it's clean!" but really ... using a bin as a table? It doesn't make me feel like I'm getting a quality treatment, and providing a small table is hardly going to break the bank!
It would be nice if the other staff were actually supporting their colleagues doing treatments. My therapist had to keep running around to get things, while the receptionist was texting on her phone, doing her colleagues hair, and it seemed, deliberately annoying my therapist by turning the music up.
I also really don't like the over the top cross-selling of services that goes on at this salon. Don't try to sell me a course of expensive facials or laser hair removal when I'm not even getting a good service on the treatment that I've booked.
This has been a very long review! I debated whether to write anything but I would want to know if someone else had such a bad experience in a salon I was going to use, so I hope it helps other people.
