This was my first detox retreat and I stayed for 3 nights. I think this is the minimum to be effective.

Amchara have created a very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere at Binden, despite the accommodation being a little tired. The staff were very attentive and clearly passionate about what they are doing. The nutrition was excellent, particularly the delicious broth at the end of each day. The yoga was also good - the instructor was very responsive in shaping the content of the sessions to fit guests' requests.

The one advantage Amchara has is that you can arrive and depart on dates that suit you rather than having to fit in with a group.

Overall I would recommend the experience.

I spent a week in Amchara and I have been back one week now and I am still eating healthily and feel full of energy and 100% better than when I went. I was totally stressed, booked at the last minute and was lucky to get a beautiful room at the front of the house over looking the garden. A couple of mornings I saw a deer. I didn't go to lose weight, people that did seem to be losing 2 pounds per day on average. I wanted to maintain my weight but to detox which I did with delicious smoothies and soups (chef is first rate). Each morning, I would swim, I had the pool to myself as the weather wasn't great but it is heated and swimming through the steam and in the rain was magical. What made it so worthwhile for me was the enthusiasm of the staff and their teachings. To really understand what sugar and carbs do in my body and how different foods affect the mood and well being. My diet has completely changed and most importantly it is sustainable. The Thai Chi and yoga teachers were excellent was fun and the desert dance brilliant, I am looking for a dancer in London to carry it on. The atmosphere is very laid back, I slobbed around in my dressing gown or in a track suit, I didn't feel pressured to do anything and really chilled out. I shall be back!

I Have just come back from a 5 day detox and relaxing break at Amchara. I would recommend this wonderful retreat to any one that wants not only to cleanse their body but also their minds. The best thing about this place is that you are not pushed to do anything that you don't want to do, the options are there (and they are quite a few) but it is up to you what you choose to do, if you feel like sleeping all day nobody will come knocking on your door. However if you feel like doing things they are endless choices from the daily yoga, Tai-chi morning classes, to the afternoon daily guided walks and meditation classes. There are also very interesting talks each day at 12.30 and on a Thursday there is a 2 hour Raw Food demonstration class which is both extremely enjoyable and interesting. All of this is included in the price you pay. There are of course other treatments available which you can buy eithe rbefore you arrive or when you are there. What make this place special is the dedication of the staff they are always there for you , they do not miss anything and they cater for all your needs, they all work extremely hard to make sure that apart form achieving your goals you have a wonderful and relaxing time . The actual retreat is located in beautiful and peaceful surroundings which makes it all more special . Whether your aim is to loose weight , detox or simply just relax and clear your mind this is the perfect place!!

my husband i have just returned from Amchara, our first detox retreat. we had 7 days at this most tranquil place.
We came away feeling rested, feeling amazing and lost some weight to.
The staff at this place are amazing, nothing is to much trouble, always willing to share their, knowllege. Would like to say a big thanks to Kirsty, Tracy, Simona, Suzie, Aly, also Mike the chef. Anna the raw food chef was amazing, we didn't know you could make so much yummy food with raw food. the Nat Paths, NLP, and treatment therapists are amazing.
The one negative is the house although lovely with a rich history, the decor is very tired and needs some serious money spending on it, this did not detract from our stay though as it was the people there that made it special.
we will return next year and we know we can keep in contact with all the staff if we need any advice to keep up with the good work we have started.

I've never been to a health retreat before so this was a new experience. I've done detox's at home but none of them have ever been as relaxing or as easy as it was at Amchara. I spent 7 days there, It was the perfect week. I went on my own and I met some really lovely people. The staff there were just brilliant. So knowledgable and always happy to help with whatever you ask them. The juices were amazing, it was lovely to have everything done for you while you just relax. The nutritional talks and all the info they give you is exceptional. I've left feeling really confident.
But this was more than just a body cleanse, I feel like my mind is now clearer too.
I lost 10 lbs during my week which was awesome and I left feeling so much lighter and cleaner on the inside. I'll definitely be going back to Amchara and I've recommended it to my friends and family who all want to go too!!

I must admit it was a little difficult to find but once your arrive you'll forget all about that. The staff greet you with a warm welcome.. My room was cozy and clean with your iteninary laid out on the dresser so no need to fret. It's like you left all your stress at the front door. Not knowing what to expect meant I ended up with a lot more than I bargain for. And the daily talks are very interesting and really make you think about what we need to do to make healthier choices for ourselves. The other guest where like long lost family and great people to be around, we even had some laugh out loud moments. Leaving the best for last and that to me is the treatments, I highly recommend them all but I favour the hot stone massage, and hour well spent.
Amchara keep doing what your doing because your doing a great job.

Top class venue, beautiful location in the rolling hills of Somerset, lovely old house with comfortable en-suite rooms. Nice linen, huge landscaped garden to walk in and a pool in the summer months. The staff are impeccably kind and professional, and all in all I cannot fault it if you are genuinely looking to cleanse your body, and have some time to yourself to re-charge. As a bonus, I lost 10 lbs, though that wasn't the reason for going. Great place.

I have stayed at Amchara twice, for two weeks each time. The staff are impeccably solicitous, kind, fun, and accommodating. They're all highly knowledgeable and great company, and they care about getting to the bottom of your health problems. The treatments on offer are excellent, the stay is terrific value, and the detox works. The kitchen staff totally know what they're doing. I'd definitely go back for a tune-up at least once a year.

Having been rather apprehensive going to Amchara alone, I was immediately put at total ease and welcomed by the three ladies who mainly looked after us (Kirstie, Wendy and Tracey). The talks, treatments, activities (yoga, tai chi, walks, saunas etc) were not only enjoyable but very informative. Attention to each guest's needs was second to none and the communication between the three mentioned above was quite remarkable. Never did I feel hungry, unsafe or unhappy and I came home feeling on top of the world, healthier and much lighter!

Not exactly a life changing experience (but pretty close). I loved Amchara!! Being able to relax and recharge my batteries in a welcoming environment was just what I needed. I loved the whole experience of a complete detox and was blown away with the Yoga...Thank you Amchara x

What a fantastic experience !!
I came along to Amchara to accompany my husband without any expectations and just to have some ME time. But I came back with a whole lot more. The whole package of juice fasting, various treatment options, nutritional talks and other sessions on NLP and mindfulness, yoga, meditation classes, raw food demonstration etc etc was just superb. Staff are just exceptionally knowledgeable and also very very supportive in your detox journey. The location is beautiful and the house itself has its own charm and character. Came back home feeling totally relaxed, rejuvenated and cleansed in mind, body and spirit and losing half a stone :). This is our third week back and I can proudly say that I am still off coffee, sugar, wheat and have introduced some healthy super foods in our diet.
Would definitely recommend a trip to Amchara for anyone looking to kick start a new healthy beginning.

My only small suggestion to Amchara would be on the housekeeping front, fresh towels more regularly would have been appreciated.

Staying at Amchara has been a life-changing experience for me and set me back on the road to good health. The staff are fantastic and there for you 24/7. The combination of juice fasting, Yoga, Tai Chi, educational talks and naturopathic monitoring is very well balanced. The house itself is very cosy and set in the most beautiful Somerset countryside which is ideal for walking. I can definitely recommend Amchara for anyone wishing to do a monitored fast.

A friend of mine persuaded me to join her for a three-day juice fasting detox programme, in an attempt to get rid of the excess pounds we'd piled on over Christmas. I'll admit that I was reluctant, as I didn't think it would be “my thing”. All I can say is that I wish I'd done it much sooner, because I absolutely loved it!

From the minute we arrived, we felt welcome and looked after. Everything about our weekend suited us perfectly, as we could tailor things to fit our own particular requirements. For example, we wanted to relax while we were there, and didn't fancy all the exercise classes; we loved that there was absolutely no pressure to join in. There was a daily schedule, but how much (or little) you participated, was entirely up to you. We also loved the flexibility: the Yoga and Meditation were held twice a day, so if you weren't up in time for the early-morning slot, you could catch it in the evening instead.

The whole fasting/detox aspect of the weekend was what I had dreaded the most, but it wasn't too bad: two days in and it became a little tough, but by the time we left, I felt amazing, not to mention seven pounds lighter! Next time, we plan to come back for longer! Plus, the freshly-made juices were much tastier than I had imagined they'd be!

I am racking my brain to think of a negative about our weekend, but there seriously isn't one! The house (and bedroom) itself was lovely, with a relaxed, comfortable and peaceful vibe, and the staff couldn't do enough for us; it felt like nothing was too much trouble.

Thank you very much to everyone at Amchara – you'll definitely be seeing me again!

I was looking for a retreat that could support my goal to cut out sugar - I'd been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and was swayed by research that said that cancer loves sugar as much as I do. The team were brilliant, supportive, informative, friendly and I received a really personal programme of information, support and treatments. The grounds to the house are beautiful, and the sauna, yoga room and pool are tranquil and relaxing places to spend time. I came away having experienced shifts within myself that I couldn't have achieved in my everyday life, and with a renewed commitment to my health and wellbeing.

I stayed at Amchara for a week and absolutely loved it! The facilities are clean, the staff are fantastic and incredibly helpful and our group was so much fun to spend the week with and to share the same experience. Everyone had a great time! There is a choice of activities/classes during the day that are optional and the teachers are competent and friendly. I would recommend Amchara to anyone who wants to have the best value for money detox experience in the UK - I felt like a newborn afterwards and have started a new life with healthier habits...

My stay here was a complete disappointment, the photos used to advertized the retreat are old and from when it was a succesful hotel ,the hotel is now very very dated and rented out to amchara to use as a detox retreat.it was cold beond belief.bathrooms complete unsuitable for colonics carpeted damp and smelly.it is in no way a five star retreat I would guess 3 lacks atmosphere and style very badly managed.

Oh my goodness!!
I thoroughly loved my stay here and am very grateful to everyone at Amchara for making my stay so AMAZING! The totally stunning location, the seriously fabulous treatments and the variety of classes alone were enough to totally bliss me out but the level of tailored care for each one of us there was outstanding. The staff are all thoroughly amazing, the level of thought and attention that goes into catering for everybody's very different individual health needs is phenomenal. This place has totally exceeded any expectations and I can't wait to go back again! There's only one drawback to experiencing a stay at Amchara, and that is that at some point you have to leave!

I thought I was just going to lose as much weight as I could in a week, but I came away with so much more than dropping a stone and seeing clear, bright, open eyes when I looked in the mirror. After returning for a further two weeks I can say without hesitation that it has been the most important catalyst for change that I have ever been through, and I don't say this lightly as I have been on quite an epic internal journey of self-healing and discovery over the last couple of years. The internal physical cleanse was, for me, secondary (although incredibly rewarding) to the emotional rewiring which occurred through the osmosis of the educational talks and advice combined with the kind and gentle staff who made the whole experience truly amazing. It's hard to put into words without sounding a bit fluffy and over-emotional, but if you're looking for a kick-start, a re-boot, a guide rope with bag loads of support, and knowledgeable support at that, to get you back on the right tracks then this will do the trick, with enduring effect. Thank you Amchara, I will never forget you!

I went to Amchara to drop a dress size in a week and I did. However, I got so much more than that from my time there. I felt cared for and looked after, and educated, and all of the many things I learnt from Yoga with Noelle (I brought the dvd home and continue to do it each day), Tai Chi with Andrew (the same, everyday), Naturopathy with Rhoda, Massages with Steph(best I have ever had), the friends I made and the whole wonderful, 'one minded atmosphere' gave me a feeling of support and happiness that I haven't know for a long time. I will go back to Amchara. I believe the education I had there about stabilising blood sugars to reduce cravings, the reasons for overeating(Andrew), and regular gentle exercise should be on the National Curriculum.
I know I am a better person and better Mother for spending a week at Amchara. I have two very good friends from the trip who I stay in touch with also.
From the bottom of my heart, thankyou so very much for 'resetting my clock' and helping me to look after myself body, mind and spirit, Namaste xxxx
